are these lights to close?

they are actually a little closer now but let me know what you think..there is a fan blowing on them now to push away any heat.

I would have to say yes they are a little close. I have read that you want them about 6 inches/15cm from the plant. If There to close you risk burning the leaves.

yeah they are a lil bit close for how small it still is. once the plant gets bigger its ideal to have them about 2 inches

Keep them as close a possible, anything more than 3-4 inches away and your wasteing light.

Do you have a little fan blowing a cross the plant/bulb?

yes there is a fan hitting all of the bulbs/plants..there is no heat build up between them..is it light that will burn them or heat though??

its heat. you should be ok maybe an inch more untill they are established plants.

I don't think you'll burn the leaves unless the bulb physically touches them (for the most part), so the distance is predicated mostly by how often you want to check and adjust the lights (IMO). Try to set the distance to basically the closest point where you can still come back and adjust the lights again before any leaves contact the bulb. It's still young so you can get away with much more separation, but I would pretty much always give the plants as much light intensity as they can take. This is just the reality of using CFLs. You have to adjust your lights constantly because the intensity drop off makes them somewhat useless (at least unproductive) after about 2 inches.

dude i'm a cfl grower and those lights are NOT too close... i keep mine 3 inches from the fan leaves.. i just keep an eye on them.. these plants grow super fast...
cfls admit little to NO heat... i've had some leaves even touching at times and no harm is done.. don't listen to these guys who are saying your lights are too close.. less space= more lumens..

your doing fine.. keep it up and good luck

I'm going to first make a mention about those pictures. Did you decide that the plant didn't need to be in focus? Did you think we would "figure it out" and see what you see through all that blur?

The items in the background are in focus. You just took the picture way too close. I cannot understand why you'd even bother posting them.

CFL bulbs work best when close. 20w to 30w bulbs need to be within 2 inches. I keep mine about 2 centimeters (less than 1 inch) from my plants. Higher wattage bulbs need to be a bit further, 40w to 50w needs to be at about 3 inches from the plant. Higher wattage CFL bulbs cast too much heat and are about as efficient as lower wattage bulbs at that distance (though they can cover a larger area).

^^ what about a 125w clf? i have it about 8 inches away from my teen and 15 inches away from a newish clone??? but my teen suffered from heat stress at 6 inches

lol i didnt read the 2nd half of what u said but i took the first pics down. the other pics with the question i asked u can clearly see that the blade leaves are standing up..i was wondering why they are standing up as if they are stretching when the light is so close.
