First time grower , looking for help choosing gear and seeds!

Hello there! I am starting a closet grow soon.the height of the closet is 180cm. I will be using:

http://www.1-hydroponics.co.uk/hydroponic-systems/2-pod.htm , aiming for two big plants.

http://www.1-hydroponics.co.uk/grow-lights/air-cooled-400w-tr.htm 400 w HPS lights with reflector and timer.

Will buy a fan and maybe put a little hole at the top of the closet to get some fresh air going in.

My question is: What kind of nutrients should I get? I have cultivated vegetables before at my old house where I had a garden , and I just used a fluid thing that you put in the water . Any brands that are designed for high yielding plants?

My second question is : I am looking for a celebral/creative high (musician here) ,
so I am guessing I need a sativa plant. But I also want a really good yield , since I will only have two plants ( I plan to supercrop both of them ). So what strain is the best for me ?

my third question is : If anyone has experience in closet growing , id love to hear some tips!!

my fourth question is : Should I get the hydroponics setup with 4 pots for 4 plants? Still under the 400w light of course. How would the total yield/taste /difficulty differ?

Thanks a lot guys!

Stay high

Seasons don't matter provided you've got central heating dude! (They CAN grow slow-ish during the winter if the rooms very cold) I recommend Paradise "Ice Cream" or "Jackie White" if you want a buzz. "Hawaii Maui-Waui" from Nirvana isn't anywhere near as strong but its nice if you're a lightweight like me.

I recommend Biobizz Bio-grow and Bio-bloom nutes...or you could use Vitalink Easy Grow and Easy Bloom, also you may wanna look into the "Buddy" additive during the last few weeks of flowering - they work for me and I've managed to keep myself high for the last couple of years. Actually - instead of Bio-grow I sometimes use Baby-Bio which you can get anywhere pretty much...

Good to see another muso on here! What do ya play? Are you in a band?

Yeah I play guitar and I write music , no band yet :)

How about ventilation? I heard that u need very good oxygen intake for your plant so that it can consume the nutrient and grow more. How can I do this?

And I just found this strain " Critical Kali Mist" , which has a clear high and a good yield. If anyone has any experience :)

Ill look into those nutrients as well :)

Closets equal heat, so be careful in your lighting choices.. I would recommend a good HOT5 light.. HID's (Hal/HPS) get very hot... Single bucket DWC's are simple and efficient...

Best of luck to ya...

Hmm okay then . I could get fans to fight off the heat.
would you suggest 2 hydroponic pots with a 400w HPS light or 4 hydroponic pots with 400w hps light?

Honestly closet grows and HID lights are a bad combo, you may get a slightly smaller yield with a HOT5 light (I have both, a 1000W and a HOT5 that run two different side by side tables, and have used them both for the past few years).. The hassel you WILL have with heat just isn't worth it. Not only will you need to ventilate but you will also need to cool.. The T5 is a great choice for a closet grow.. Take it from someone that uses both.. As a matter of fact I also use my T5's in a closet for my mothers and cloning - very little heat...

Best of luck..

I use a 125-watt dual-spectrum CFL growlight with a reflector in mine (found it on ebay for about 45 quid as a set...I dunno how big your cupboard is but I think I chose the right size for mine - no heat issues at all) - I'd make sure u get the ventilation sorted out though if your gonna use the big light...how deep and wide is it? Mine's about 4.5/3.5/2 (h/w/d) I do occaisionally stick a couple of CFL's halfway down/near the bottom... (ok, MAYBE I could cope with a bigger light but its a CFL anyway which hardly gives off any heat in comparison to a HID - I wouldn't wanna try one in there!) - You also wanna make sure the inside of the cupboard is painted white or covered in Mylar or something similar...

Where can i get a hot5 light? like which website?Like with about the same energy consumption but really as good? Im really looking to grow big plants.

Growing big plants are gonna require big energy output which means big lights....you're gonna need a cooltube setup with proper exhaust/ ventilation to grow BIG plants and control temps in a small space. My recommendation is to start small and learn as you go........I currently veg under t5 and move to 400w or 1000w hps in a large growroom....believe me, when you go big, requirements get BIG too....

Well said..

I have 4 tables total

I veg and clone with smaller 8 bulb HOT5's, then I transfer to the bloom tables..

1 bloom table is all HPS 1000W'ers and I have a smaller bloom table that I actually use HOT5's.. MY T5 Bloom table doesn't produce as big of yields, but close enough, draws way less energy and produces a helluva lot less heat.. I cant imagine trying to stuff a HID in a closet.. Even with AC, ventilation etc would be a big pain in the butt i'd think..

Stick with the T5's, start a little smaller (dont shoot the moon yet)

Or

If you're hellbent on starting bigger then go with a 600W digital ballast, get a friend to come over and hook you up with a couple AC vents in your closet with a couple exhaust fans and intakes.. 400's are a waste of money imo for someone that wants to "go big"...

Here's a link for a T5 I think would work like a charm for you.

That light and a couple DWC buckets and your golden!! Perfect for a closet grow!!

Thanks for everything. And one last thing! how many of the nutrient should i add to the water, also how often should i water the plant in each phase?
