t5's,t8's and t12's.???

just went to b&q "hardware store, to get some flo's.
i saw that they sold t5's then t8's and even t12's.
whats the differnce.
i must admit that i thought that,you could only buy these online.
so ive come back from the hardware store to ask, what lites are best.
i want 3 more, long ones, i already have 2 t8'5, and some smaller ones.
so am i right in thinking the t12's would be the best, they just seem thicker, like me. thick as a do,do.
any help would be great, thanks.

yo crazy...you want the T5s mate. They are the highest output flouresents. VV uses them for all stages of growth with great results! :joint:

yes but wouldnt a t8 or t12, have a bigger output of lite, there fatter, there for more lite???
i have no idea im just asking.

t5s produce only a little more light than t8s and cost more than double!

t8s can be used in t12 fixtures without any problems and work great!!

i have never used t5s, but have had great veg results with only t-8 florescents!

If you have T12 or T8 and need bulbs, buy them. If you need a new fixture, consider T5. They offer higher Watts to Lumens ratio, at all stages of use than any other fixture. Also, many (most?) of the T5 bulbs have multiple phosphore layers, giving better light at all stages.

if your talking about flourescents the lower the number the better. example...t5's are better than t8's and t8's are better than t12's. thicker doesn't mean better in this case. if you can go with the t5's but i've had pretty good results with t8's. thats what i vegg with. check out my journal if you wanna see the results. hope i could help

Make sure they are High Output T5s or T5 HO. These are by far the brightes of all floros! next in line are the T8s wich are cheaper and almost as good as the T5ho

yeah t8s will be great for veg. try to get 4 bulbs and your golden! the good thing about t8s is that the bulbs are redaly avalible in a wide range of spectrums. 6400k 3000k ect

thanks matt, ill get some tommorow,i have 2, but i have a smaller compact one, that i thought would be as good, but its not.

even though you've already been given good advice, ill throw in my 2 cents; i agree with everything that has been said. t5's are best, i personally use a T12 (two 40 watt daylight bulbs) with 130watts of CFL's for vegging. of course, for flowering i *always* use my 1000watt - but for veg you can get away with using CFLs with a T12.

the reason i bought a T12 is because it was $8.99 for the fixture, lol but the daylight plant bulbs were $10 each - as opposed to $3 for 2 of the crappy soft whites. these were purchased at home depot, but honestly bro id go with a T5 like everyone else is saying - theyre alot better.

Lowes has some new T5 fixtures. I saw a 2 tube T5 (46 inch?) for $30. I think it came with bulbs. Anyway, the point is this, T5s are starting to come down in price and are more easily available.
