Resources are becoming stretched and thanks to 9/11 we live in a very different world than most of us imagined when we were young.
the saddest part of it is, the world hasn't changed in the least. perhaps you've forgotten the duck and cover drills in school or the emergence of mutually assured destruction as a viable means of maintaining the peace. the stakes are the same as they were fifty years ago, we've just added a few more players to the game. the world is still in a constant state of war, those who are not actively engaged in hostilities are maintaining a state of readiness or building arsenals in preparation for some as yet unseen offensive. we're just as screwed as we always were.

the difference between now and then is that we used to have the illusion of black and white, all the little grey areas were overshadowed by a dominating struggle. it was easy to despise a regime that murdered millions of its own people and consigned many more to forced labor. the soviet union's stalinist tactics and perpetual revolution gave the west the appearance of solidarity, but all that ended when russia collapsed in on itself and its satellites emerged as separate entities. without that enemy, all of the old animosities and festering grievances came back to haunt us. all the minor injustices perpetrated in the name of that great struggle took center stage and became rallying points for anyone seeking victimhood status. the 20/20 vision of hindsight, clouded slightly by agenda, gave the world a new set of enemies to vent its frustrations on. any single dominating nation has now become the great evil and the regimes it supports must be seen as evil as well.

the world has readjusted itself and fixed its sights on a new target. any hard won freedoms now take a back seat to the concept of economic equality. minor nations, has-been empires and flagging states now band together for their slice of the pie and whine pitifully at any obstacles in their way. they see liberty as assured and their goal is now erasing the advantages that it has secured. but these self-appointed arbiters of this new world's morality think a bit too much of themselves and their abilities. they discount the lessons learned through decades of neighboring tyranny and see themselves as above making those same mistakes. even some of those who learned the hard way, through years of the oppression brought on by the doctrine of forced equality, find themselves lapsing back into the dogma of perverted marxism. those with resources now chafe under the tutelage of their erstwhile benefactors and loudly complain that their motives were not of the purest altruism, berating those powers for expecting some profit for their efforts. they scream of imperialism louder now than ever, having forgotten the price that is paid to true colonial rulers.

the only resource we are truly running out of is patience. every need is immediate and every grievance must be answered just as immediately. the hungry must be fed, the homeless must be housed, the disadvantaged must be given every opportunity and it must all be done now. that each of these problems has always existed is beside the point, we are now given someone to blame for it all and, luckily, that someone has the means to alleviate all this suffering. we are all now entitled to what fate once handed to only the few and they must be made to pay. their riches must be undeserved, obtained through treachery and deceit, and such power belongs only in the hands of the duly appointed representatives of the people.

there has always been someone with the answer. caeser's answer was domination through force and things haven't changed all that much. whether force is a tool used by the few to dominate the many or the many to dominate the few, it is still a violence that any right thinking person should be opposed to. that so many supposedly civilized people throughout the world should believe that that fact has changed is all that is different and i'm not so sure that this wasn't really the case all along.

I agree. It is just the fact that there is way too much Jingoism on the right, like they think America can do no wrong, they are in fact wrong and America has done much wrong. Just to set the record straight, we Americans do not walk on water and piss gold. There are a lot of good American people, but there are a lot of good people all over the world, Iranians included. It is the narrow minded Jingoists that make us the most hated country on the earth, that and our plethora of overly wealthy top tier. Rich Americans (By their standards) swaggering drunkenly down foriegn streets for the last 60+ years have taken a toll on our image.

I think there are way wealthier countries than America. Right and wrong are relative terms. Absolutely there are good people all over the world, I even know a few Iranians and they are wonderful people! I don't think anybody is hating on the Iranian people here med. The regime is out of control and they only need to look across their western border to see what happens when you play these types of games with the U.S. I'm not going to argue whether it's right or wrong, it just is. As a libertarian I would certainly like to see less U.S. influence overseas. Unfortunately the world will probably never go back to the pre-globalization era. The world is changing med and you can either accept it and try to make the best of your situation or you can hate on anybody who has more than you and grumble about how unfair life is.:sad:

I'm fairly sure I could dig up numerous posts of yours bitching and moaning about the "elites" and the "wealthy" all having more than you, and how you'd like to excercise your 2nd amendment rights on some of them. Just exactly what facts are you posting? Please point them out because I see very little "facts" in any of your posts. I guess calling me a moron makes you feel better about yourself. The brutal fActs were presented and you ignored them. The Iraqi culture has nothing to do with why we went there, and even if it did, it would only be a flea bite on fucked up cultures by our standards. The "Brutal facts" are as follows: Rich old white men start wars for money, killing brown, black, and yellow men, using poor white men for fodder. The reason we went to Iraq was for Oil. Dubya had an agenda about Sadam and his father, but the Oil men and war contractors, (Haliburton etc.)were the deciding factor in invading Iraq. All the no-bid contractors have gotten rich and the oil men are about to. It is about the Benjamins for old rich white men, pure and simple. Ahmadinejad also speaks fluent Azeri and served as a popular and successful official in two Azeri provinces for 8 years. How does this reflect election fraud at all? Have you read any of the papers on why the West believes there was an election fraud? There is absolutely no empirical evidence in them, only hearsay.

The polls leading up to the election also showed that Ahmadinejad was favored to win and the national debates proved Ahmadinejad to be a winner (especially his debate with Mousavi). Before you, again, claim that anything coming out of Iran is a fraud, look at the results of this poll conducted out of Washington D.C. by Western institutions and funded by the West:

Once again, I am not Muslim.

Sharia law is different by every country and culture. Sharia law comes from the Quran and can also be interpreted by man. Man has misinterpreted countless things in history - Christianity, the US Constitution, Bill of Rights, Hindu-ism, Buddhism, etc. The same goes for the aforementioned brutalities. Arranged marriages are even bigger in scope of world history. Hindu's, the major religion in India, go through arranged marriages. Asian cultures go through arranged marriages. I'm not saying I agree with an arranged marriage and I, personally, would not want to.

It is Sharia Law that Muslim females are able to get married when they are mature. The word mature can be misinterpreted or twisted into very different things. There is nowhere in Sharia Law where it states sexual intimacy is allowed between an adult male and a 2 year old child. Arranged marriages are only allowed with the consent of the two families and later the consent of the grown child - IF no sexual intimacy is present. It is a pact between two families, not an actual wedding ceremony between a grown male and a 2 year old female. Once again, I don't agree with this and I am not Muslim.

My point is cultures differ. We have different cultures, morals and ethical codes. A few disturbances within a culture grants no reason for a destruction of a culture nor does is it viable to label an entire civilization based on a handful of anomalies. We can go through hitherto and point out all the flawed interpretations and the crimes against humanity by all cultures of the world.

Stoning is referred to as a Pagan tradition in the Quran. There is nothing about stoning in the Quran. Stoning is, however, mentioned in the Bible and Torah several times (18 justifications for stoning as punishment in the Rabbinic Code):

21:18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:

21:19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

21:20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.
