Wow. Blows my mind. I had a bunch of points I thought of while reading this, but most of them have been covered. Just wow.
Starting to sell, here is my situation...

Take it from someone who went down that road 20 years ago. Its not worth what you could put your family thru when you end up behind bars. The only thing I regret from my prison time was watching my mother cry in the court room as the judge sentenced me to 8 years for being caught with 36 lbs of mexi brick. I sold for 4 years before the fuzz finally caught up with me and it ended my college education and screwed up my life for almost a decade even tho I was one of the first batch of first time offenders to be offered the Boot camp program that was being introduced circa 1993. I spent 6 months 7 days behind bars 4 months of that was a military style boot camp. The rest of the 8 years was parol/probation. It was 2001 before I had finally had my complete freedom back. To this day I cannot vote or legally own a gun. Not only that being a convicted felon makes finding decent work even harder with how things are these days.

Think of a small business idea that your community lacks, then start going for it starting with any job you can find. Money is a lot easier to make then people seem to think. If you live in a small town, go to each and every business and ask for 20 dollars a week to keep the windows clean, sidewalk swept, and weeds trimmed. Get 5 places and you are making 100 dollars per week working your own hours under your own management. Make your rounds daily and boom, you have cash.

i was in pretty much the same situation except i was 17 and kicked out, and had to work my ass off and hustle to get through high school supporting myself... the best advice i can give you is get into adult ed, hopefully somewhere with open campus lunch... get a couple down ass bitches to hold your weed in class for you, sell dime bags to cats all day at school, but keep that shit on the low... and dont never let no one know you are keeping your bundles on the bitches... thats a hardcore grind that can pay off if you are goin to the right kind of school... for real though, the best advice i could give is to not slang, and like others have said, finish school and go to college on a pell grant and student loans... thats where its at, also, if you get busted selling drugs you wont be able to get a pell grant... college is a slow grind but pays off, and you dont want no felonies... trips to county jail will set you back more than they will ever put you ahead...

thats the fuckin truth right there... ive done window washing when i lived in downtown detroit... real nice way to eat good, and drink good wiping windows for restaurants and pubs... shit, even if he got a few residential lawns to mow or anything he could do alright...
most landscaping companies start out very small, as does many other types of trades... you can get whatever you want out of life if you are willing to bust your ass for it... you can even go to places like small pizza shops and see if they will let you flier neighborhoods for them for hourly or w/e...

i got expeled from school at 13 i had a 3.6 gpa to i got accepted back 1 month later expeled again during that time started slanging a little cause i didnt have shit to do i had my 1st son at 14 so had to start slanglin like a motha fucka due to i couldnt get a job cause my age and i wanted to suppourt my son so i did what i could i pushed weed and pills and shit was going good but you cant do that shit 4ever

i was getting randomly searched in school about 3 times a week, its the only way i could still do my thing... true they could give you up easy, and i definitely wouldnt be putting em up on what i had going on outside of school. bitches are a quick way to get duct taped up and robbed, so you definitely have to know the limitations of what you let them know...
either way, this kid needs to take his ass back to school or get his GED, and get to college. otherwise when he chooses to reproduce he will not be able to give his children a better starting off point, thus perpetuating the cycle of poverty in his bloodline.

not to say college is the only way, but having a degree and no criminal history is a helluva start. he could also get his GED and go to trade school...
shit, he could go to police school, fuck the police in general, but its not a bad gig.

i am 19 and i was right in your situation ive been dealing since the 7th grade and never had a problem i had it all bitches nice cars clothes jewrey a nice ass apartment 3 traps it was so nice i did even really touch the work all i did was collect i was ballin i mainly sold reggos,dro,coke,E,acid,molly,shrooms,guns,car systems, and anything else i could get my hands on and flip untill ppl started noticing in a bad way and all 3 of my traps where raided by swat and my apartment was the last and they found 10 plants and close to a pound of shrooms dried out and 20 pattys bout to start sprouting but the place was in a friends name cauze i had warrents for som misdemedors but they were gona pin da shit on him but he worked a deal to rat on me so i got caught and was charged with and these som of these where over time and some where all at once

my max was 40+ years but i got a lawyer and it was my first felon so i was charged with 1 mauf/deliv marijuana and a few misdemdors i spent 30,000+ to my lawyer and thousands more to the courts now iam 19 i spent a year and a lil more all in jail and i missed 4 of my really good friends funerals and alot of good times so if you do decide to slang follow these rules
1. never trust anyone
2 never use your name use a street name
3 never slang where you lay your head at night
4 never deliver and always meet in a semi public place if you need to best is to do it at a friends down the street from there house
5 always ALWAYS FOLLOW YOUR GUT
6 never flash your money with nice cloths
7 never wear a hat when your riding in a car
8 you will eventually run into the cops so always keep your cool cuz they can tell if your nervous
9 stay lo-key as fuck
10 never get family involved
11 stack your money dont be running around spending your shit
12 and if you feel if your getting 2 hot then cool off and jus chill for a little bit cuz the streets will always be there but you wont if you get pinched

God damn its cheap where you live. Where i live it costs around $2500 a pound. $20-25 for 3.5g, $50-60 for 7g, $120-140 for 14g, $220-240 for 28g AUD
