Is deep water cultivation hard to do?

I'm interested in doing deep water cultivation. This will be my first time growing. Is hard to do? I heard it is? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

No ! I never grew anything in my life and my first grow was DWC bubbleponics. Just make sure you focus on PH, PPM and reservoir temperature your water needs to be at a good 68 degrees. PH 5.8 and PPM varies at different growth stages.

the first is the container.011.JPGthe second is the plant thats in it004.jpgim currently doing dwc and i find it easier then soil, i am using a foldgers can and an air pump. the biggest thing to remeber is it is a bit more touchy when it comes to nutes so just sstart off easy on them. if you accidently over feed it is easy to just dump the res and refill with less nutes. oh and another thing is ph its supposed to be 5.5 to 6.5 if u keep it at 5.8 to 6 you will be ok. i prefer smaller containers becouse i dont have to worry about algea or root rot because the water gets changed alot more often then if it were in a large container. it makes it a little more high maintanince. but only have two plants so its not so bad. hope this helps

When the rez temperature goes below 68 degrees? Does it stunt growth? Got a Waterfarm and am anticipating cold rez temps in a non heated grow room. Would I need some type of aquarium heater and at what temp should I start to worry? I think these questions would benefit the Op as well...

If you go lower than 60 you will shock your plants I would go to petsmart and buy one of those cheap aquarium heaters they look like a wand. I have the opposite problem living here in the desert.

Thanks for the quick reply..how are you cooling your rez? We have extreme temps here in both summer and winter. Would a frozen mini water bottle do the trick or would I need some type of chiller?

Edit: Not hijacking your thread..these are questions that will be relevant to your grow..

Yeah so do I I mean its going to still be like 90 this week. Yeah I use the 5 gallon Sport coolers by Igloo also i use the same lid that comes with them I take a jig saw to the lid to fit my 5.5'' net pot and during veg my res temps stay locked it at about 67 - 68 degrees I kid you not...

i found dwc is hard to do without adequate information. In specific for my failure was too big of a reservoir and too small of an air pump. My plants lived for 9 hours after i transplanted them into my dwc system.I was apparently drowning them and they almost died due to extreme overwatering because of lack of oxygen in the res. As soon as i noticed this i quickly removed them from that system drained excess water and put them into the ebb and flow system I am using currently. Luckily they made it... So my suggestion to you would be to find all the relevant information and specs you would need for the size res, air pump, nutes, etc. Lots of things that can go wrong fast, your a slave to the system sir...

it helps keep my room warmer there is no heat source in there it can get cold at night. when i put that stuff up it helps steady temps
