So My room in 5'x2' (closet) and was wondering what light I should get, I'm trying to grow 6 with the SCROG method. I know a 600w hps would be best but would a 400w get the job done?

Thanks for the help.

I got a really good deal on a 1000w is that too much for the space it doesnt need to be stealth at all.The only reason I consider getting it is because Im going to be moving into a bigger place in a 6 months and why not just get it now. If I can get it cool enough... what do you think.

So I have the light but it is a little large for my room and I think exhaust and electricity might be a bit of a problem. Would a 90w LED be enough for 4-6 plants and could I run some cfls with the LED without negatively effecting it?

The reality is, small closet grows suck and they're hardly worth getting busted for. If you can shirt out your closet(assuming it has a double door), to make the growroom larger, you could vent your 1000w/hps with cooltube into the room. Just leave the window open a crack. On the otherhand, an old fridge setup properly would work to cool down the air. I have used refridgeration in the past.

More light is always better if you can keep it cool enough. A 400 will effectively cover about 3x3. You'd be very pleased with the 600 to cover 5x2. You would likely be disappointed with the led cfl combo.

400 watt chrome domes. I use two. out of the 400's watt bulbs, the chrome dome has one of the highest lumen output, or used to. although lacks spectrum. no hoods, movers, ducting. you just point a fan at it and another fan to circulate the air in the room. I still have yet to see anyone else use them on riu.(want to see more) Ive had them 8 inches from bud to bulb, with just fans. remember, inverse square law. light intensity diminishes by half every 6-12 inches away. the 600 is the most efficient hid, lumens per watt. 50 watts a square foot is ideal in hid's.

Can you post a pic of your reflectors please, I'm interesting in seeing them. incidently there is a interesting study done by jorge cervantes on his website/blog regarding the reflectors and what sort of light spread they give off.

actually, thats where and why I have these bulbs. the reflector is built in, or is just a bulb with reflective coating on one half of the bulb. jorge stating that these are some of the best spread of light he has seen. Ill see if I can find a pic, if not, check my album.

You really can't have "too much" light man. Heat is the problem that you need to avoid when adding lighting.

If you already have the 1000w you are almost certainly going to need a vented hood. A single 1k watt lamp with ballast can raise the temp of an area that small by as much as 30 degrees!

If you are still on the fence using your 1k light because of the electricty etc, I would spend some extra money and spring for a 600 watt with a vented hood.

This is a great investment, will be very good for your space, and when you do finally move into a larger space, the light is still very useful. Then you can simply add your 1000 watt light to your grow later should you chose to expand.

Or, maybe trade/sell your 1000w light for a 600 watt light. They run cooler and are more efficient and should eliminate the problems you have with electricity.

A 1k watt light draws about 7 amps. The average house circuit is good to 15 amps. It's not hard to over do it and start blowing things once you get everything plugged in.

As long as your not baking your plants, scotching leaves, and are keeping your room under 80 degrees, you fine.

Vented hoods are a godsend! Totally worth the money.

IMO sell the 1k, or better yet save it for later, get yourself a nice 600 with a vented hood and go to town.

You will be way happier using a 600 or 1000 over a 400, that's for sure.

I have never seen them available in the UK, where are you? I'd be interested in trying them straight in my reflector, a dutch poot with midi reflector.
