250W HPS sounds perfect and opt. for the digital, I hear they are a lot quieter and more energy efficient. (Which should cover the $30 in the long run I'm guessing.) Better yet, if you can find one do a switchable 250W that can do both HPS and MH then use the MH for veg and the HPS for flower. Peace. =)

Cj. Where is this space and how do plan to vent. Ergo where?

You are going to want an aircooled hood for sure. One 4" inline fan pulling air through the hood. This will keep the temps down allot and also allow you to get the plants closer to the hoods.

Yes, two seperate bulbs is ideal. You can get any old mh bulb for veg. Like $25. Get a nice bulb for flower. Hortilux, ushio, etc. $60/70. With a 200 (400 would be nice but with you are going to need to flip them quick) would ne even better. Two of your healthiest plants in a SCROG. Dude, your eyes are going to bulge out when you see the buds trust me

the grow is going to be in a 9 foot wide closet. but im going to use just under half of it for now. i was thinking it would be best to use alumiflex ducting to pull air over a sealed hood and then vent it through my attic where i already have a metal type roof so noticeable heat would be hard to detect. plus i will have 1 or maybe 2 fans inside of it, nothing super big just enough to move air around. if the temps get to high on a first / trial run i will try to draw cooler air from the space under my house. even in hot ass temps here in nor-cal it stays around 65-75*F.

Ok, if that's the situation than I would go with a 400. Reason being that when you start seeing nice buds you are going to get the grow itch big time and want to expand. With a nice 400 hood you can mount your 400 on a light rail and have and have solid light over about 8 foot. Your going to want to have some space on each end to mount plugs and put your fans and dehumidifier. I really like the idea of crawl space vents. I would mount two GOOD 8" inline booster fans in the floor. One on each end, one blowing in the other out. Hook them to a thermo stat and be be done with it. By good booster fan I mean the hydrofarm one, all the other booster fans suck ass, but this one actually throws around 300 cfm. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d.html/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/192-7687516-7503254?a=B001G6XSGU

very nice flow pretty quiet. Use nets on the fans so you keep bugs out of your room. That is the last thing you want in there!

Well the 9 feet will only be something to be done in the future, i dont want to jump in over my head. i want to learn as i go with this, start off with 4-6 plants then move up. then if i feel i can/ need to make it bigger then i will do so.

The idea of pulling cooler air in from under the house is just my idea of being cheap. i dont want to have to buy an AC unit. plus with an AC unit and the heat from the lamp then you will have a higher humidity. The outside air here where i live has a low 30-40% in the winter and lower in the summer. This being a guess while i look at the news paper every day to see what the level was from the day before.
