Is the democratic party stupid, blind, clueless or is it based on ideology?

instead of a few rich people getting a lot of tax breaks, why not give a lot of "middle class" or poor people smaller tax breaks? they will appreciate the extra few hundred bucks a LOT more than those rich people would appreciate the thousands/millions. the poor people would also spend all of it, buying products, and giving income to businesses. with that income, the businesses can create more jobs.
If we take the total sum of what republicans want to give the wealthy and divided it up equally we could give every American citizen over $2000. I like that idea way better.

exactly! not only would it help struggling families, but it would also help the businesses which SUPPORT those families. those businesses will in turn make more money also. why just give it straight to a select few companies? because the politicians rely on those companies for campaign funds. if they dont do it, they have zero chance of getting reelected. so, they make up this huge "false political fight", which makes americans feud against eachother. this distracts them from the fact that the government is fucking us all royally.

ive always despised our government because they work under the false guise of "freedom". after all, this is america...were perfect! >_>

if u were to give tax breaks to the rich people, whats to stop them from pocketing the cash, and not hiring more people? wouldnt they just put it in their bank accounts and wait till it accrues interest? why would they hire more people if the economy is shit, and none of the "poorer" people can buy their products?

this whole "trickle down" economics thing is a bunch of bullshit.

thoe rich bastards dont need that money. theyre not going to go out of business if they dont get their great tax cuts. Bush lowered them so drastically, and now they are saying theyll be SOOOO HIGH when the bill expires. do u not realize that the tax situation will be the same as it was when Clinton left, if the bill expires? i really dont see that as a big deal at all
That money won't accrue much interest at the moment. The interest rates are so low right now you'd be better off investing your money in lemonade stands!

I realize it sounds logical to steal from the rich and give to the poor but what right does anybody else have to my hard earned $$? I earned it legally so why should I have to give more of it to Uncle Sam than anybody else? I realize there are a lot of tax loopholes, especially for the wealthy and I'm all for closing these loopholes and am an advocate of a fair tax. It seems to me that all of this frustration aimed at the rich is a bit misplaced. Perhaps we should be holding our politicians more accountable. ;-)

Sorry, I have not checked back in a while. I see we are still in an ideological debate whereby the middle class is somehow benifiting from taxing the "wealthy" and that this is somehow "fiscally responsible". What libs don't seem to understand is that if they ever became "rich", the dems would not have a constituency to vote for them. As long as you depend on the man, you will never be free of him. It's a self defeating fantasy and not what America is all about.

The $70Billion or whatever you quoted in additional revenue is a flea fart in a hurricane. Our interest on debt is our 3rd largest expense is a half a Trillion dollars (paying for that pays down no principal). The US has over $100 Trillion in unfunded liabilities (SS and medicare) and Obozo just tacked on health care to eclipse that. Obama has spent Trillions of dollars since he has been in office. Now, they are saying good lord we are in a recession people and our debt is a problem.

The problem from a responsibility standpoint has nothing to do with the revenue side and everything to do with the expense side. And will not be fixed with more taxes. In fact, in a recession they would most likely make more money off people making more money with a lower tax rate if the economy improves. So let them play the credit game. Until they change the way things are done, nothing is going to improve there. In the meantime, they don't need to tie up everyone's money. It's not a few "rich" people that are being hurt on this. It's created a chaotic business environment. And BTW, it looks like Obama is going to cave on this for 2 years (big suprise after elections). The argument that someone over $250k doesn't put anything back into the economy is proposertous. We need jobs. The bottom tax bracket does not buy stock, they do not buy real estate, they do not employ people. The libs still believe things trickle up, which defies gravity cause money as well as shit ...roll down hill.

So yes, this money all does come from somewhere. If you're going to cut taxes on the rich that money is coming out of someone else's pocket.
Actually, it's the wastefull/deficit spending. Tax revenue goes into the black hole...some gets distributed for these things, but saying that 3% comes out of the pocket for the middle class is a joke. I'll address this now. INFRASTRUCTURE has become bullshit word. That is code for BULLSHIT and $400 hammers. At best you waste a ton of money, noone benifits and you get a blip in public sector improvement. At worst, it is a meanlingless catch phrase for politicians

I want to know where the 2 trillion dollars the Pentagon misplaced went. That by itself is 30 years worth of tax cuts. Oh wait, all the records were burned up in Trade center building 7, I guess we should just forget about that missing cash then.

looks like Obama caved into demands from the Republicans, and the republicans caved into the demands of the Democrats. Looks like instead of saving 70 billion this year, we are online to spend an ADDITIONAL 60 Billion.

The tax cuts stay and the unemployed get another 1 year safety net.

HAHAHAHA When will they (The idiot politicians) ever learn?

Ok. Let's give everyone $2000. Free money and benefits for the non-productive. Goddamn billionares....all 400 of them and the focal point of your ideology.

Really? I mean really? You can't understand that every entitlement program is completely upside down. We just doubled down again with this mess they call healthcare. You can't understand that all this buerecratic tape waste money? You think tax revenue is dollar for dollar and allocated for expenses....if it was we wouldn't be so far in the hole on debt. Countless levels of agencies, redundancies, pork barrel projects and lack of fiscal discipline or ability to budget is not something a 3% tax increase is going to have an effect on....especially if it stalls the economy futher. Your argument is moral and based in emotion...not pragmatic

Neither has a rich person. Their companies did. And they didn't give you a job because rich people are nice and had money to burn, they did it because people were out buying that companies products or services. Middle class and poor people buy far more goods and services than rich people.

No it doesn't. It's an expiring tax cut, not a new tax. It's expiring for a good reason too. It's really expensive, not paid for, and not productive.

Let me guess, you want Obama to lower taxes on the rich, lower the defecit, and fix the economy all at the same time right?
:wall:
I dont understand how everybody who Voted for Obama NOW ALL THE SUDDEN IS EXPECTING HIM TO FIX SHIT OVERNIGHT. ITS GOING TO TAKE AT LEAST 2-3 YEARS TO FIX WHAT GEORGE BUSH FUCKED UP

If he was in there for 8 years, he wouldn't "fix" it. Obama isn't good cause GW sucks. Obama sucks on his own just fine. He is a unqualified leftist. Doesn't matter what about so and so...he sucks. He didn't pull us out of the ditch...he set the car on fire

ROFLMAO!!!

The president decided to accept the Republican deal of no tax increases for 2 years for everyone + 13 weeks of unemployment extension. The Democrats are PISSED!!!

The reason? Because the president wants a 2nd term and he doesnt care if he has to throw his own party under the bus, so be it...

But again... WHY DID THEY WAIT SO LONG??? If the Republicans get everything they want then it just fucked with the economy for another month.

The DJIA jumped due to news about the uncertainty of the Bush-era Tax cuts. It should help propel the markets higher as well as company hiring. This will create certainty within the markets and businesses. It will also allow another two years for companies to adjust for higher taxes later. If they did not extend...there would have been additional selling pressure that would have depressed asset prices and resulted in market contraction. i.e. wrong medicine/ wrong time

No, it's actually worse than that. The democrats (Obama) caved, but the unemployed only get thirteen weeks of extended benefits, what a loser, Obama that is. I believe he is a Dempublican, democrat in name only. Those of you that say there is no difference in the parties, need to raise your awareness. This debate alone shows a wide difference. Basically, democrats are people oriented and republicans are business oriented, Republicans are for the rich and dems are more for the poor than repukes, obviously they are both more interested in their own jobs and well being than we the people. I for one, see no solutions, as we really don't have a voice anymore. Anyone have any real solutions, please elaborate.

It's admitadely a small band aid on a major wound. But, it's a bit of good news that business will not be looking for a new bottom. The market needs a signal as a lot of participants have been decimated. This creates some sense that they are not trying to screw up on purpose.
