hows this for a carbon filter

It's an air filter, not a carbon filter. If he had active carbon in the fliter, or between two filters, then it'd be a very cheap carbon filter, quality would depend on how the carbon was placed, air flow, lifetime, renewability, etc.

why is it funny? you are the only person calling it a "carbon" filter. The video never once mentions "carbon"....

Not a very good one in all honesty. Making a real carbon filter isn't all that hard (for less than 50 bucks you can make a reusable carbon filter in any size you want). You need some cmetal mesh, pantyhose, felt or some other fabric, carbon pellets, some duct work, and few misc items. You'd also need an inline or vortex style fan which I assume you already own. After 2-3 months you dump out the old carbon and replace it with new pellets. Look online there are many DIY carb filter schematics online (I won't post a link since its on a rival form, but a google search will get you far). Filters are cheap and easy to make. I'd never recommend buying one. Carbon is one of the cheapest compounds on earth (its the 3rd most abundant element on earth let alone the solar system). The prices these filter maker charge is so unreasonable it's not even funny. They literally are charging more per weight then something made out of silver or copper in some cases. That just blows my mind.

Amazon is a good place to start. Pet stores have it too. Just make sure to buy pellets and not pads. My plans are to place pellets in the inside of my filter and then a few pads on the outside and then cover everything up with felt. The panty hose keep the fan from sucking the pellets.

im thinking about using a 6" dryer exhust end, fill with active carbon, with a panty hose to hold the active carbon. i'm going to need a bigger exhaust fan tho. the 160cfm inline fan wont last long trying to push air threw the active carbon is my guess.
