Cooler Questions

I've been cooler shopping and came up with some questions for the Team Water Cooler crew. Mainly concerning the top. Do you cut holes in the existing lid? If so, how? Holesaw?

Or are you makling them out of something?

Thanx.

What's up PNTRBL !?

You can use a hole saw for the lid, then aluminum foil tape the inside edges of the hole because the cooler insides will be exposed to the water and solution which may lead to rot.

Or you can do like BoomerBloomer57 and I, which is use the 2 inch thick insulated styrofoam boards from Lowes or Home Depot.
A simple sharp knife will cut the holes.

Use THE BOTTOM of your net cup as a template to draw your circle.
The tops are wider and thicker most of the time.
That helps to "seal" the hole when you put the net pot into it and makes it nice and snug.

If you buy the big coolers I wouldnt use the lid because you can always re-use the cooler for recreation purposes. I use the 5 gallon sport coolers and seeing how I will never have the need for re-using them I just cut a whole in the lid using a jig ssaw and the bottom of the net pot to trace a circle.

Is that same stuff I just insulated with? And then threw the scraps away! Ah hell. It was only 1 1/2" anyway. 2" sounds better.

I bought one 100 quart igloo that I had no problem with cutting holes in but my 150 quart I think I'm gonna use foam board and keep it a functioning cooler IF I ever decide to give up growing pot. I just put this one in operation tonite and I can already tell the plants are gonna love this shit..... 5 inch hole saw , kinda tricky to cut but not impossible. I cut 5 inch holes and put 6 inch netpots in them myself. I'll be doing 3-6 of the team water coolers, those will be a piece of cake.

hey flo, I've got a 750 gph air pump that runs 3 med round stones in the cooler and 3 in buckets (yuck). That cooler cost me like 150 bux to put together and I'm thinking its gonna be money well spent. I'd like to thank boomer for the idea, I looked at his set up and realized I definetly needed to do similar, not exact copy of course( he doesn't show his internals!) so....thanks boomer, I know you didn't invent the concept but you're still alright by me! So, the cooler has 8 sprayers and a 400 gph water pump and I had such a headache already from building it I blew the filter off, there wasn't much space either, height that is, so I couldn't get a filter inline and I might pay for that in the long run by replacing a lot of sprayers. Thanks for the +rep flo and right back to you!

I'll be dipped, nice mod!

Just let us know how the sprayers work out.

and a lil tip, dump the round stones and get the 6 inch flats by Elite.
They make a difference.

hey boomer thanks, I'm gonna do my 150 quart like yours(foam board top) but I just can't bring myself to not put a water pump and all the sprayers I can stick in the thing. I don't know what it is about the spray but it certainly seems to make a difference here. Thanks for the tip on the stones, I just bought generic round stones due to the eight 20 dollar oxygenators seemed to have clogged in a couple grows, the company that makes those (deepwaterinnovations.com) sells a stone "revitalizer" for 30 bux a gallon, I figure its just a concentrated chlorine bleach and maybe some vinegar but who knows. I soaking them overnite in bleach but they're still trash to me.

I use the 14 inch flat blue stones from Wal Fart.
They are on their second grow now too.
Soaked them for a day, then just took a toothbrush and some Hydrogen Peroxide to them in hot water, then soaked for a day again.

C'mon ya stoners, think about it.

Bubbles is an ESSENTIAL in this method.
Don't be cheap on the important things like air bubbles.
Use em once and throw them out or problems will arise.

I use 60 to 70 airstones at any given time. When I harvest they go in the trash
and I replace them.

Elites ain't cheap but they work the best for my set up.

tiny bubbles, floating in my res,
tiny bubbles, that will go to my head
tiny bubbles, ought to be the name of this
thread. tiny bubbles.

I end up snapping too many of those in two for some reason, accidentally usually. The big round ones def won't break and this is the ONLY reason I like them, they probably won't clog as easy either but then thats a drawback because it just means the pores are bigger and we all know the tinier the bubble the better. Heres a link to stone cleaning....http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/fishphotosa_b/ht/CleanAirairston.htm

I break my cheap wal fart ones too so I started buying some better air stones from the local garden supply...

that first picture of the oxygenator, micro-pore, they're gonna clog( I have like 10 of them and they cost me 18 bux per all pretty much clogged now), the second picture, the big round stone. thats the ones I use now.

yeah they arent worth the 20 bucks .. I love the round cylinder ones too.. The Micro pores can actually be cleaned with a cleaner they sell at the local hydro shop.. Honestly I think I will just stick with the round cylinders.

Hello all. I use a 120 quart igloo for my remote res in an adjoining room. For my flower pots I use the 10 gallon slip lid igloos. I run a spray ring inside with 2 EZ Cloner sprayers that spray 1minute on and 6 minutes off. I use a Mag3 pump to do 4 plants. I have not had to use any airstones as I keep my
nutes at 65 and the flower coolers only hold maybe an inch of nutes in the bottoms by drain. This is a pic of a Power Kush bitch at 2 weeks into flower. She was vegged for 4 1/2 weeks . Peace 907
