Is there such a thing as an honest conservative?

Let's us do a reality check. Do the conservatives really want to lower the deficit? If so, the largest cut they could do would be to rescind the bush tax cuts for the wealthy. Do they really want to create jobs? Well then the best scenario would be to extend unemployment for the unemployed, and fund infrastructure repair with that 720 Billion they are trying to give millionaires and billionaires. The absolute absurdity of their legislation astounds me and many, 67% of the people are against that. So, is there one honest conservative? I seriously doubt it, maybe Ron Paul, but he is so outvoted that he really doesn't count in the total realm of votes.

I don't get it either. How does a tax cut reduce the debt? I hear that Huckabee is the next Republican candidate.

I wish I lived in a village or something,
or a colony, like back in the day.
Instead of this government bullshit.
All I need is my family, food, shelter, and my plants.
Cant ask for anything more.

"$720 billion they are trying to GIVE millionaires and billionaires"?????? They are giving them their own money????? lmfao!!!!! I love the progressive mindset. A case study in lunacy! Let me fix that statement for you: "$720 Billion they won't be jacking from a lot of people who worked really hard for their money". Why are you harping on the deficit anyways? I thought this was about turning the economy around. Clinton is on board with extending the tax cuts. What's the problem? Unemployment got extended for another 13 months!!!! Sounds like everyone got what some of what they wanted. I fail to see the problem. :-?

The problem is, they extended the tax cuts, but wont be cutting spending to pay for it. I'm a conservative, but I don't believe there are any real conservatives in Washington anymore. We need to get the debt under control. We should cut spending across the board, and quit trying to be everything to everyone.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the progressives have been screaming about getting the economy back on track, all else be damned! I totally agree the deficit and our national debt are huge problems. We have to be thinking about fixing it.............just not in the midst of the worst economic downturn since the depression! When the conservatives were screaming about the deficit, you were bitching about it then. Now that everybody is pretty much getting what they want you are still bitching! It's simply not possible to fix the deficit and deal with staggering unemployment at the same time.

I guess I got a different memo than you because mine says "All politicians=lying dicks".;-)

I would cut SS ( Sorry med no more checks for you), Medicare, Medicaid and lay off 50% of government workers. Dept of Homeland Defense...Gone. Dept of education....gone. Dept of Energy....gone. NPR/PBS funding....gone. All government workers including all Members of Congress will have to take a 20% pay reduction. All foreign Military bases...gone. Military reduced by 75%.

I bet I could save over 2 Trillion PER YEAR with my method, way better than any tax cut could ever hope to achieve.

You won't see ANY of these ideas floated by ANY politician except maybe Ron Paul. Why? because its the ONLY way we will ever reign in our out of control spending. Politicians always paint rosy pictures, they never deal with pain. But pain is the only thing they have left to give us. Conservatives and Liberals alike are responsible for this, not any one particular viewpoint could have gotten us to where we are today, it was a collective political scam perpetrated by THEM against US.

I am getting disheartened by this lame duck congress. I really hope the new people that got elected will start making an impact in January. One of the things John Baynor said he was going to get congress to cut its budget by 5% saving 25 million. Now, I applaud the effort but if that is the kind of cuts the Republicans will be making then we wont see a significant lessening of the deficit.

I like you... We should tear down the government together...

Unemployment, welfare, warfare, waste ... I read that the US government is subsidizing the cost of sugar while also running a campaign against it ... I think the whole government system itself needs to be shrunken down, it's a money hungry beast that creates dependents who keep it alive and perpetuate the cycle.

Unemployment supplies the unemployed with money to spend. They spend it and create jobs that would otherwise go the way of their own jobs. I don't live in any more of a dream world that you, where you on one hand want to give millionaires a tax break and on the other want to lower the deficit. Tell me that is not a dream

unemployment takes money from productive people who DO stimulate the economy by buying big ticket items such as washers, dryers, cars, houses etc. and gives it to unproductive people who buy toothpaste, toilet paper, food and bare necessities like lottory tickets. 99 percent which goes to cheap crap produced in china by slave labor.

whatever college you took economics from, demand a refund. they sure fucked up your education of how economies work.

I totally agree with you. I consider myself and independent only cause I dont want to side with any of the politicians. I am more of a liberal but if i declare myself a liberal people will associate me with the democrats in the government. There aren't real conservatives in Washington is spot on. They are all politicians and the ones with power aren't doing what they should be, liberals and conservatives. The bigger problem is that no one wants to compromise. Every election people just say "hey things might be better if the other party is in power". So it goes back and forth. The politicians are too busy pushing what they want, nothing ever gets done and when it does, it just gets changed in 2 years.

meh instead of going on im just going to go look at my plants and smoke a bowl:joint:

Might be more but they all fear the wacko rights who have taken over the Republican Party...Now the only goal is to see Obama fail, regardless to the cost of the nation..When our POTUS fails our nations fails as well..Take Bush big failure in every business he ever had a hand in and look how the country was when he left office.

From each according to his means to each according to their needs.
You forgot to give credit to Karl Marx for this quote. And to be honest the word "Means" should be changed to "ability".

Also you need to realize that it didn't work, Karl Marx's ideas of a Utopian society actually created a much poorer society.

Bush had some Oil business failures,None of which were failures due to his management. Most of the Oil failures were due to NOT FINDING ANY OIL. He made most of his money by owning the Texas Rangers Ballpark that was heavily subsidized by taxpayers.

If the President Fails, we go about our day, the nation goes on and we get a new President a few hours later.
