I have a 250w hps with an attatched ballast and it was fucking hot! When I moved it into my tent the temps soared, I now have a 400w air-cooled fixture, and it's awesome, the temps are reasonable and it's A LOT lighter than the 250 compact, if you get a cool-tube, you'll fucking love it.
Nice job on the tent man, that thing is nice. What kind of material is it? that image on the outside looks crazy haha
Thanks up, that makes me feel a little better! I'm going to get one within the next month hopefully
What kind of 400 do you have and what did you pay for it? One more thing, what are the temps @ ambient and under you lights with the air cooled hood?
Its visquine plastic thats black on the outside and white on the inside. "lightproof" It worked well, I'm thinking of making a door for the very front. Basically the only part you can get to haha...The part thats open in that pic. Thats just a poster I had in my closet lol, I'll probably put that on the door because it looks cool
Today with that side in the pic open it was steady around 89-90 with ambient temps in the closet at 84-85. When I open my window in the room the temp obviously drops tremedously but I can't do that every day when the temps increase lol..
I have 2 ideas.
#1.) I think its probably the most important. Vent the hot exhausted air into the attic and not back into the closet. Thats whats making the temp go up in the closet and room I think. If that dropped the ambient 4-5 degrees that would help a lot!
#2.) Get a nice intake fan and seal the box up.
I'm not going to worry about it to much for the rest of this grow seeing they where pretty hot throughout the whole grow.. but I would like to test and figure everything out when this KK finishes up which its actually showing sighns of slowing down and maturing so its should be soon! Anyway I'm rambling but I knew heat was going to be an issue expecially beacause I want to seal this box up completley and my ambient temps are pretty warm in the room. Between 75-80.
I love the smell of kush in the morning!
Lookin good dude!
Me too
Thanks bro
man TreeZ that new box is looking good bro.. I'm wanting to build something like that and I'm thinking of going hps for flowering when I do.. Build one for flower and one for veg, will probably continue to use cfls for veg and will keep the pc for mother plants or something I dunno lol... I'll rep you again when I can..
Thanks Monko, thats pretty much what I'm doing! I'm not trying to do anything perpetually at this point so taking clones around 2-4 weeks in to flowering would work out perfect for me and I only need my little cab to veg them while they wait there turn
One of those duct booster fans should work well for you on that. I use one of the 8" ones to cool my vert that's got two 600s in cooltubes and it's not great but it's getting the job done. Another guy on here uses two of the 6" ones in a 'Y' configuration to cool a 1000W HPS light and it works for him.
At one point i was using a 9" desk fan that was screwed into a 2gal bucket with a 4" hole cut in the bottom. I just ran 4" ducting from the light to the bucket and used a dimmer switch wired to the fan to control the speed. It would keep the room cool during the summer months on abotu 75 percent power with an air cooled hood and a 400w HPS. I didn't have my ballast in the room though, it was mounted on the roof of the room.
Those booster fans have ratings that are all over the place. Only look at the 'free air' ratings because that'll tell you what it'll pull/push. The boosted rating is the fastest the fan have air flowing through it before becoming more of a restriction than a booster. 6" ones are typically about 130CFM and the 8" ones are around 250CFM. Good luck, you'll get it handled.
Thanks for the info dez, I think the 6" one would probably work out well but is 75 degrees intake @130 cfm going to be enough to cool all that light and ballast sealed up is the question with the 265 for exhaust?
Oh I took the carbon filter off when it was around 90 and it didn't seem to make a difference but its definitely moving more air.
I'm thinking I really need to vent the hot air to the attic, that is just obvious and I overlooked it
On a side note the lights are off and there around 70 degrees
