i have been cruisin through the threads looking around for various fish carcass fertilizer methods for outdoor growing, can't find many. but i remember when i was knee high to a grasshopper and prolly one of my first grows i ever attempted. i had a buddy whos pond was always over run with tadpoles every spring, i grabbed a small tupperware container and put thousands of the lil bastards in it along with a lil pond water, then i put the top on and let it steep for a couple weeks. i had one plot outside, with probably 100 or so sprouts coming up in a 3x3 area. so after the tadpoles were good and stinky i top dressed my plot with them. racoons are a motherfucker round here and would you know it, a day or two later i whent out and i could see activity of the coons burrowin around the plot, but to my relief i could also see insane growth to all the sprouts, like i gave them crack, i am talking like 4-5 inches in a mear 2 days. it was cool, but since then i have never attempted such a feat ever again. i have read though how native americans used to throw fish carcasses in the hoile and plant the crop. what i am wondering is if anyone ever tried this and if they ever got an awesome growth rate as i once witnessed way back in my nubbish youth. please feel free to post. thanks

Fih carcasses can be used but it takes a long time to break down just like any decaying organism. Also, as you experienced, anmals will often dig up your plants to get to the fish. IDK how much the top dressed tadpoles really effected your grow it could have just been a coincidence. Fish are full of good stuff for yourr plants if you want to grow with them I suggest you get some fish emulsion fertilizer, but IDK if that would change the animal problem or not.

Fish guts are very beneficial, I throw all mine into my garden and it does great every year. I also heat my home with wood and dump all the ash into my garden too. Two of Mother Nature's greatest fertilizers.

Here is my recipe for fish Fertilizer I have used it for years outdoor with great sucess..
　

How to make it

　
  • If you use fresh fish, you need to compost it in a 5 gallon closeable bucket.
  • Fill bucket 1/2 full with extra browns like sawdust, leaves, or straw.
  • You can add some molasses to the fishy mixture in order to build up microbes to speed up decomposition.
  • Stir the bucket daily or every other day in order to get air in the mix for better decomposition and better aerobic microbial growth in the emulsion.
  • **Let this paste rot for at least 1-2 weeks.**
  • If you like, you could add 1-2 tb of Epsom salt to the mix for extra magnesium and sulfur and for extra trace elements you could add 1-2 tb of apple cider vinegar.
  • You can apply this fish emulsion at a dilution rate from 1:1 to 1:5 ratio (5 gallons of tea to 25 gallons of water).
　
  • You can use fresh fish parts or any canned fish. The juices, sauces, or oils in the can can be used to breed beneficial microbes and supply extra proteins in the tea, so use it.
  • If you do use canned fish products, you may want to let it decompose mixed with some finished compost, good garden soil, etc. in a container for a few days before using.
  • Most canned meat products contain preservatives, and this ensures that the good microbes in the tea will not be killed off or harmed in making the emulsion.

this all seems like a big hassle ,just water with fish emulsion . Throwing dead animals carcases etc in your hole only increases the chance of disease to the plant, also in lump like that in the hole it can burn the plant. Put a multi purpose mix in the hole ,lime mulch and medium rel osmocote on top.Have a dam in there.come in every 2 weeks and water miracle grow , seaweed extract for veg then blooming fert 2 months before harvest. Its cleaner ,safer and much more productive.

O.k., I'm not trying to start anything here but my experience with fish carcasses has been outstanding. I put 3 to 5 carcasses about 16 inches under the intended planting spot for tomatoes, etc., about 2 to 4 weeks prior to planting. The plant takes another 3 weeks to get their roots to the carcasses and then lookout; HEFTY growth for a month or so after that. More vegetables!
This year I intend to try this on 2 or 3 of my girls and will document it accordingly. I'd be willing to bet a fat Cola that those 2 or 3 plants are looking down on the others.
Fish meat isn't the same, you gotta have guts and bones to get the results, in my experience, as I have used freezer burned fillets with half ass results.
