I've been fortunate enough to have a computer in the house most of my life. Sure, it started out as a some funk IBM machine running DOS, but I got upgrades. I remember when I was... I dunno... 14 or 15 when CD burners came out and Napster was the shit. I remember spending new years eve 95'/96' on an early AOL chat room with some old pervert. One of my favorite things was to go on a chat room and start flaming and tolling... before there was flaming and trolling... I consider myself a pioneer of this fine art. But I also know there is a time and a place for everything.
Which is why some guys get some good rep. They aren't trolling all the time. NoDrama brings up another good point. A lot of these guys find a home in the debate forums, they spend all day at odds with other people, and I think this affects their online persona. They probably aren't bad guys. At a Chili Peppers concert we'd have no problem smoking up... but for some reason some people can't bring who they are behind the screen on screen.
I had never posted in any forum before the show Heroes debuted on NBC. That was such a good show in the first season, and as a physics student (at that time) I really liked developing scientific basis for their powers. Like, how would flying work? Or what about manipulating space and time? So that was my first experience with people who clearly don't know what they are talking about trying to troll.
This has been an all new experience. I've been banned from Grasscity for responding to a troll wrong. But they ban everyone at grasscity so it's not any surprise. In the beginning I thought that there were some people who honestly just made the wrong call. But then I see these people in almost every sick plant thread, always misdiagnosing simple shit, and defending themselves violently.
Recently I've found myself trying out theory, defining them as theory and myself as amateur, and yet these experienced debate forum users come in claiming I am saying and doing things I have not said and done. So I respond, clearly, with quotes, then they tell me I "don't know what I'm talking about. Just trying to save face."
Which gets me to "What?" and then I question their intelligence, after which I am insulted. It's insanity, but I get so caught up in it like many other people do and it is hard to see objectively until some time has passed.
Uncle Ben told me that using Canna Coco A+B, Rhizotonic, Cal-Mag Plus, and Liquid Karma was entirely too many products to be using. He just wouldn't let go and has really lost touch with himself. It was truly unbelievable to see him melt down and troll me across threads in different forums. So sad.
