I just installed an aircooled reflector. If it's any help it's this one - http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-AIROFLOW-Reflector.asp

What distance from the top of the plants do you put the reflector?

I've seen a variety of distances mentioned in the forum but not too clear if the reflectors are air cooled or not. I can feel the radiant heat (like you'd feel from the sun hitting you) from it at the top of the plants, but then again plants feel the same thing from the sun. Radiant vs. ambient (ambient as in "It's HOT in this room) is what I am felling, the room is about 80.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Measure distance from the plant tops to the bulb, not any part of the lamp housing. The ideal distance varies mostly with wattage and a little with bulb quality. What size are you using?

1.5' from the bulb. That should provide room for growth so once the plants get to about 16" away from the bulb, move the lamp back to 18". It will vary a couple inches with bulb quality. These figures are only for avoiding light burn, with adequate cooling so heat isn't an issue.

Your light should support healthy plant growth up to about 4.5' away from the bulb, so plan the final harvest height accordingly. Growing plants over 3' tall or under at least 2' would be a waste

i put my light as close as i can with the temps at tops of plants never over 83 degrees, but that me. good luck and happy growing.

The closer the better until they burn or your "light canopy" is too small. You can't get too intense, you can get too hot. I've seen plants grow within inches of a well ventilated hood.
