Is it necessay to have an Airstone inside my 55 gallon reservoir?

The water inside the 55g. reservoir is pumped up to the flood table 5 times a day every 5hrs. I was wondering if the water inside the reservoir needed more oxygen since the water sits still for 5 hrs. And if I do need an airstone what kind and size should i get? And how long shud it be on for? I have an extra ecoplus 396 pump. All i would need is an airstone right?

I have a airstone in everything, my cloner my flood table res, and each res hooked to my power growers. My res are much smaller like 10gal and i run a 4 inch airstone seems to work great. You will need much bigger sorry im not sure how big they get but I have seen a 12 inch that would work prolly.

in flood and drain all you need is to make the flood hole above the water level in control res, then keep it flooding for few extra minutes so that the water airs, otherwise, the drain sucks in O2 into root zone. i dont use airstone in there eventhough i have many spare ones, i just dont see the need. i use H2O2 to control larvae, bubbles dont do that.

Better safe than Sorry... I would put an airstone in the rez just in case...

Dont let that water sit still. either circulate that pump or o2 that tank still water equals problems

I turn my pump every 5hrs. and then the water sits still for 5hrs.. shud I make the table flood more often? and when the water is dropping into the res. it already creates bubbles. is that not enough?

Air stones are like jello. If there is always room for jello, there is always room for an air stone. Hell, a weighted air hose on the bottom will even be better than nothing and then there is no stone to get fouled and plugged up. I think there are "air whips" that are nothing other than a piece of air hose with holes in it.

I flood for 15 min every 4 hours and my roots are white and healthy without an airstone, I have tried it and did not notice a difference in anything except the electric bill. If you recirculate entire res every time you flood i don't see a need, that alone should aerate your nutrient. If your roots are not sittting in the res itself I don't see how they would benefit.

doesnt matter, if water sits its not good. if you can circulate the pumps without feeding the plants that would be fine just move the water. still water is a home for disease.

I think if you regulate the rez temp around 68 degrees you will have no problems but I would put a air stone the mix to be safe...

use airstone,if you dont your water will lose oxygen and you will get root rot, trust me, and a air stone pump does not consume much electricity.... so why risk it?

SImple test pour a glass of water into another glass of water look for bubbles,now fill a glass of water and drop airstone in and look for bubbles.
