Flowering Supplements? Please Help

Hello,
Im flowering SLH now and am using Subs Super Soil and was wondering if there is anything extra I can use to make the buds bigger. Someone mentioned Liquid Karma and something by Bcuzz. Im still wanting to keep this organic as much as I can. If anyone else has any experience with this please let me know.

Bud size is affected by pretty much everything, not just nutrients. For plants to make use of more nutrients, they need more light energy. If you have more light than the plants are making use of, then adding more nutrients should make the buds bigger. If you already have signs of nutrient burn on the oldest and lowest leaves, adding more fertilizer will probably hurt rather than help. Anything that helps the plant grow better/faster will of course cause the buds to do the same.

Are you only looking for bigger buds or would more overall harvest weight work just as well? There are many suggestions I could give but they'd be different depending on whether you just want more bud or are entering a Most Ginormous Bud competition.

i just have one question when do buds start to get fat or start to swell

im hitting week 5 and i have heard they really take off in week 6,7and 8.

The number of weeks depends on the strain but the second half of flowering should always be more glorious than the first. Bigger plants have more total growth and so need more nutrients than smaller ones. As the plants get bigger in flowering, the fertilizer strength should increase with them, always giving them as much K as they can handle with only slight burning. The plants should get as much of the other nutrients as they can handle without any increase in burning. This way the amount of K they can handle isn't decreased by burn already being caused by the other nutes.

Some strains (usually more indica varieties) just don't branch out like others do and yield best in a SoG method. When making more colas doesn't increase overall yield or if growing more stalks takes too long to be worthwhile, you concentrate on minimum pot diameter in flowering and pack single, large colas close together. They can finish a few days before the topped ones but you need more soil, pots, ferts, etc. For strains that make considerably smaller colas the more there are and really shine as a single huge bud, this method is the key to big yields imho.

Most strains handle branching well enough that having more heads equals a bigger yield. There are a million training methods when you have a separate veg area to spend an entire flowering cycle training the next round. Ours work wonderfully topped twice; the first stalk and then the 2-3 that grow in after removing it. They end up with 5-6 colas that weight around 15g each crispy dry.

Im looking mainly for overall bud weight. I thought the bigger the buds = more weight. as far as nutreints go there isnt any burns and they are getting plenty of light.

All of Mothers Finest's info is great and accurate, but the entire point of Subcools supersoil is to add only water, the supersoil has everything the plant needs in it already. People grow huge buds with just that and if you add more nutes you run a major risk of burning your plants, as the supersoil is already pretty "hot"

Let's also say that this cola weighed 40g, a nice size for a single bud. You grow another that was topped a few times in veg. The training caused, say, five main colas to form rather than the one. At harvest, each of these buds weighs 15g. You now have a plant that yields 40g and another plant of the same strain that yields 75g, even though it has smaller buds. Because the topped plants take up more room, you can probably fit more of the untrained plants in the same area and ultimately have a similar yield per square foot as the topped ones.

How well they respond to training, how big the pots they need are, how much veg time you have to work with and other factors affect the decision of what method to use to grow. We always top twice since it requires fewer pots & plants (meaning less work & fewer resources needed), spreading the buds out across the canopy gets more light to them than when they are all part of a single cola, topping makes for shorter plants which places the lowest buds not as far away from the light as untopped and our strain just responds very well to it.

Yep. I understand what you are saying and the post that I have read from you are always informative. As of right now I have half that are Fimmed and half that are just natural.

I know that the point of SS is to just add water but i thought I read somewhere (cant remember exactly where) That Sub even adds some stuff during flowering... But it is possible that I was Misinformed. As of right now I havnt added anything "extra" I have added great white but been doing that for a while. I was thinking about adding some mollasses. Adding the mollasses should be o.k though right?

Don't want to hijack this thread, but if your plants are nice and green while in flower, is that in its self, enough to tell you that your plants are getting what they need?
