Seedling has a tight helmet.

:leaf:My seedlings are retaining their casings. Should I ever try to remove them? I don't want any of them to die. Do cotyledons need light or are they just food storage before the true leaves? I know its probably not a big deal but I'm an over protective parent. LOL and I need some reassurance.:leaf:

keep the humidity high to help soften the helmet.

I think its happenin a lot for me because the plants didn't fight at all to get out of the rockwool. They kinda just grew perfectly straight up like poles out of the hole like put them in and lightly covered. Planted them 2 days ago. Saw the tops of seeds yesterday and this morning got a couple helmet heads but I can see a lot more seed tops in the other cubes so I know Ill soon have an army of helmet heads.

LOL I don't eat much seafood so your simile fell short LOL but thanks for the input. I might try it on one and see but... they are all so precious to me.

The humidity is way up so ill wait... I just noticed one casing is actually spreading really quick and looks like is wants to come off sometime soon. Wow these things grow a millimeter and hour. Never really watched this stage so closely as this is my first real indoor grow.

Thanks for your input. Its much appreciated.

take a medicine dropper or syringe and put warm water on the cask. had one do this a few weeks ago and after the 3rd or 4th time with warm water she loosened enough to push right off with tweezers. just dont trt to force the cask off or we will all be watching you on the first 48!! lol.

when they are ready to come off you should be able to lightly brush them off. before that you risk damaging leaves, and at that point those first two leaves are all that can keep it alive.

If you can, I suggest putting a piece of plastic wrap over (with a rubber band)... this will give the seedling its own humidity dome, and it will open for you. What medium are you using?
