questions about outside growing

1. when do you plant obviously not now there 2 feet of snow out there but mabey around April? 2 do u just get some top soil and plant right into the ground? or in buckets on ground? 3 do you start from seed into the ground or grow inside first until a specific height? 4 wouldn't all the rain over water the plant? 5 finally what would be the ideal spot outside? thank you in advance i will rep all good answers

When to plant depends ofc where you are. I used to put clones out first 2 weeks of may..you just don't want a surprise frost. Where and how you plant depends on your area. In most cases you need to amend the soil and for best results let it brew for a year. You can always use buckets but that means you need to haul the soil to fill them. Example: You want to plant and there are many conifer type trees in the area. You need to amend the soil with lime to bring the acidity down and it takes awhile to take effect. It is best to start from clone. If you start from seed your yield is going to be much smaller but you can do it. But if you do best to germinate before planting as you will get a much higher rate of germination using a controlled environment than just in the soil. Rain on the plant is fine if thats what you are asking it strengthens the plant. But you need to be careful in the late phase of flowering. Than if it rains best get out to your plants and shake off excess water.

The ideal spot is complex to say the least. Look for a spot that has decent cover and a close water source. it also needs to be as hard as possible to get to. Thorn bushes, thick brush, biting insects like mosquitos and blackflies..all these things make it much less likely that people are going to find your plants. I could go on forever about things to do and not to do but will instead stop here and answer any questions you might have as best I can.

Their are a few options. Use fishingline around the perimiter of the grow a few feet above the ground and attach the ends to small bells. When they hit it with their legs they will take off. Keep in mind "small" bells doesn't take much to scare a deer. You can also tie plastic bags to branches around the grow they move in the wind and scare the deer. But this also makes the area around the grow more visible to people that may come close to the crop. Another is to pee as much as possible around the perimiter this does work but depends on how used to people the deer are. I have had the best luck with fishingline and bells. You usually need to reset the lines after a deer runs into them as they break it but I have had great success with it.

definitely after the last chance of frost for your area. if you want some big plants with huge buds you probably are gonna want to dig some decent size holes, maybe 2x2x2 and fill it with a good soil mix maybe 75% and mix some native soil in as well. you can get by with amending like dradden said but it will take some time for those amendments to become affective. your best bet would be to dig some holes and fill them with a good soil mix. in my experience 50% compost / 50% peat moss works great. i have a soil thread if you wanna check it out

if you mix how it says on the recipe with 3qt bowls, you can drop a cup of lime to each cubic foot of soil mix and you have a ph buffered soil mix. do this 30 days prior to putting soil in the holes and let it sit in the holes you dug for 30 days and your good to go. you could also add a small amount of perlite but its not really necessary. you lose lots of moisture in the summer due to heat and light so perlite you should not need.

another thing to consider is your light schedule you start your plants on indoors. if you go 24/7 indoors and then put your plants out in mid may or so, your plants will lose 10 hours or more of light automatically! when this happens your plant will most often start to flower and as the days begin to get longer it will re-veg. this wastes lots of valuable time. you will either have to start plants on 18/6 or less and gradually decrease light until the day you put them out or wait a little longer to put them out. i have noticed in my experience that if i wait until after june 1, i can put plants right out from a 24/7 veg room without any adverse affects. most people i know go 17/7 and may decrease light an hour or two over a few weeks before they go out.

after the first full moon of may, look up lunar planting and the long term weather forcast, remember it's alway's best to go a week after your initial thought, cause your prolly horny to grow and it's a huge beginners mistake to plant too early so make sure u start them inside so ther strong or plant first week of june if your at 45 parallel like me

dont worry about medium, marijuana isnt picky!! id just use the native soil, just dig a hole and plant it, id suggest keeping a 2L with the top cut off around your plant, to act as a mini greenhouse/ animal protection.

the fihsing line with a bell is the best idea though IMO. it just takes more time then the 2L method. human hair is usually enough to keep animals at bay.

id suggest mulching the top of the soil though to hold in moisture for the longest time.

first germinate your seeds. after they germinate put them in small containers with earth , at 50mm deep. if you prepare well the soil, work it work it, you will not have to put buckets, even in a mountain area, with rocks. take maximum care in the first mounth of life. water them if you can. always put them 3 meters one from other (make like this and you will take you later) prune them, always have the south side free for the light to reach to your plant(s).

you have to remember that mj will grow in the wild just about anywhere but, optimal growth and fat buds is what were after, im assuming. soil types, texture, ph, fertility, etc. vary greatly depending where you are and your approach will also vary greatly if your just adding amendments. thats why, IMO, bringing your soil to the site is probably the fastest sure way of giving your plants an advantage.

yes it is better to use your own soil mix, its just very expensive, and heavy work if your growing 50+ plants outdoors. native soil works well. I always try to grow as many as I can with good soil but its very out of my way so to speak.

i think its all just a matter of opinion. the soil mix i make in my thread is cheap to make. i dont use the perlite portion of the recipe because its not necessary outdoors. , i just use equal parts peat moss and compost with limestone and then just add fertilizer to the mix or use liquid through the year.

Another quick tip. Slugs love your little plants and will cause troubles if they are in your area. I used to pack a 6pack of beer with me everytime I visited the crop. Cut a few beercans in 1/2 and bury them so the top of the can is about 1/2 a inch above ground. Than roll the sharp edge to make a dull edge all the way around. Put a couple inches of beer in and voila your slug traps are done. Slugs love beer and if they are in your crop they will endup in those cans 100%.

yeah my neighbor use to do the same thing with his vegetable garden and it definitely worked for him. slugs definitely fuck little plants up for sure.

go to the sports authority and buy some mountain lion piss and pour it in a circle around your crops and NOTHING will touch it, if you cant find lion piss then fox piss works too.
