Great DIY job on the table. I may reconsider my more expensive purchase of a system from the grow shop.I'm doing a system about that.

This is a 20 gallon cement mixing tub (Home de Pot).
On top of it is 1.75" thick sytrofoam with 3" holes cut in it.
There's two 250gph water pumps since side it. One for circulation and one heading to my 1/10hp Aqua Chiller.
I have a EcoAir 5 air pump with 8 airstones in it. This might be overkill, but the roots love it.
I've had various slime issues. I resolved them by lowering my res temps to 65f, adding Aqua Shield, and using Sub Culture B & M. The roots really love that setup.
Hope that helps!
Well if I can I want to stick with DWC. At least if I can control the slime. An ebb & flow design? I have seen some use trays filled with hydrotron, you pump water up into tray from a reservoir and let it flow out, that would be the easiest way.
I think it would be tough to clean and keep light out, you would have to be able to have it elevated so you can drain it spray it out and then refill all without moving your reservoir.

How deep is the tub?
Any additional info would be great.
Regardless I am going to run this all by my grow shop guy so he can make sure I am getting the correct stuff or equivelent product.
He is a DWC fan so I am sure he will help me out getting the right stuff.
I am very much a NooB but jumping in with both feet.
So far I am growing 4 mothers in individual buckets and although they are all looking quite healthy up top, down below they have all have the grey/brown slime to some degree.

Would you have an opinion on this solution to the keeping the slime away?

Many thanks for your reply.
The tub, which you get at Home De Pot for cheap, is 2'x3' and about a foot deep I think. I fill it with about 18 gallon of water (not to the brim obviously)
Here's a picture...don't mind the foam, I just added some Azamax which caused it to foam up due to all air I'm pumping in there with that EcoAir5.

Thanks
I couldn't find a similar tub at my Home Depot. I will purchase from the grow store but I will make my own top like you have done.
Do you get any issues with mold or mildew on the bottom of the styrofoam?

The tubs are cement mixing tubs, they're down past the lumber usually on the end isle or two. Look near the cement mix. I've found them at 4 or 5 home depots, I thought they were all the same for the most part! The styrofoam though...oh its a sick idea, got it from a friend. It's reusable, you can adhere mylar to it, and its sturdy.
The styrofoam is mold resistant, its meant for insulation like walls and what not, so it comes purposefully that way. I've never got mildew on the styrofoam. I've been using it for two years now and I love it. Sometimes you get the green algae that would appear on the top of your rockwool if its exposed, but that stuff is harmless and doesn't compete with your plants.
The bottom of the styrofoam, which would be down towards your res, should be even cleaner than your top for the most part....because there shouldn't be any light getting to it. There's a thin sheet of plastic on the bottom (and top) too, not a lot of stuff can grow on plastic or styrofoam without light. I've had more than my fair share of molds, mildews, algae, snot, shit, tears of pain and none of it has been on the styrofoam or from what I can tell because of the styrofoam.
Cheers
