A Problem With My Neighbor

Two things come to mind. First would be ear plugs!

Second would be to go here and print this out about a dozen times
http://www.makealeap.org/idling_myth

Then stick it on his windshield under the wipers each morning on each car and mail a copy to them from "the neighborhood"

If they don't respond to that you can file a civil suit in small claims court, however you will make a real enemy.

If it were me, I would do the print out thing and if that didn't work then I'd buy some ear plugs. Just my opinion.
This. Or murder...with a silencer...the irony.

Set your alarm for 3am, then go knock on his door and tell him you want to talk about him disrupting your sleep every morning with his stupid truck.

Dude just be a man and walk over there with a few neighbours and let him know it bothers all of you, if he does not listen he's a douche!!
My neighbour did the same thing until i told him it woke me up every day, he was nice and parked it across the street in front of a park, he felt bad, never realised he was bothering so many people. Try to be nice to your neighbours, you never know when you might need their help

Some places are fineing drivers for leaving idleing cars unattended as it apparently causes car theft to spike on cold days.
To the best of my knowledge, most damage is done to an engine while idleing like this.

if it bothers you, you can call the cops on his ass.

the cops have to respond to a noise complaint, even if they can't do anything.

you never know, the guy might have a warrant and you're in the clear!!!!

Sicking cops on someone seems the same to me as sicking mafia on someone. Neither produce any long term future good for you, and all come with their problems.

Maybe you should wake up for a early morning jog and while his truck is sitting out there idleing just jump in it and steal that shit! Crash it into a tree down the street jump out and jog back to your house. When he comes out act freacked out and explain to him "I wondered why when i waved at you you didnt wave back" LOL He will think hes car slipped out of park and rolled away. Hopefully he will buy a quieter truck next time. MIND FUCK EM!

Seriously? All this negativity. There are peaceful solutions to these problems. Give the guy chances to be a nice guy before you start treating him like your enemy. He isn't your enemy, he's just a friend who doesn't know he's being annoying.

Haha.. I want to thank everyone for their comments and suggestions! It's interesting to see how different people would approach this situation.

Just for the record here:

A few people including myself have politely asked him to refrain from pulling his truck in front of his/our houses to idle as it is bothering people, and he refuses to. I truly feel that he does this intentionally to bother people as occasionally he is forced to park on the side street if for whatever reason his parking spot has been taken, and when it's time to idle he just pulls in front of his house and blocks traffic in the street, not there is alot of traffic on the street at that hour.

In all honesty, My wife and I are passed the annoyed, sick of, and fed up stages with this situation and have been just dealing with it even though it is still annoying.

My concern now is the person that lives on the other side of him is just entering the fed up stage  and I think might pursue a solution more aggressively as I have wanted to keep a low profile, if you know what I mean, so maybe this problem will be resolved.

I know this is some trivial BS, but as I said, it is interesting to see what people would do. Who knows, maybe someone with a similar situation can learn something from this thread. I guess thats a part of what forums are for.

Thanks again!

Tell you what I do is sleep with a fan on in the room.....doesn't have to be pointing at you just as long as it is running....You will get used to the noise and then you won't hear anything else. This works for me and now when its quiet I have trouble falling asleep.

In all fairness to OP, it's highly unlikely that his smoking affects any of his neighbors negatively.
My concern in my situation are the fumes lingering in my home with my neighbors truck. I completely understand the need to warm the truck up and have no complaints with that. However having asked several times to please move the truck down a bit so I'm not huffing the exhaust in my home (which is extremely harmful to animals and people) and a response of complete ignorance and no concern is absolutely pissing me off. If someone came to me with a similar problem I would do everything to make sure I could resolve the issue. To have no regard for your neighbors when they do for you.. Now you that regrad is gone and you are nothing to me.
