Welcome! This forum is a great resource for all your questions! I credit my success so far to RIU and the local hydro store!

How big are you trying to get your plants? What strain are you planning on growing? Usually the rule is to get at least .5 grams per watt of light. I would think for your space that amount is good. I'm assuming your CFL's are the 100w output bulbs that use 23w. That's about 600w for your approx. 3'x2' space. Just make sure you have an exhaust system to keep the space cool so you can keep those lights a couple of inches above your plants. You don't want them to stretch, keep the lights close so you can maximize your height.

In my Veg area I have 4 mothers for each 4' 4 bulb T5 setup (2 of them) and it's been perfect so far. They grow about a 1/2 inch every day and wider and wider.

This is my blueberry mother, I've kept the light about 3 inches above and she has very compact nodes for more support and bud sites.

Good luck! Hope you get a great and highly potient yield!:hump:

wow your plants are looking awesome! and thank you for the reply. seeing how well yours are doing under t5s makes me feel better about my setup. i will be growing some easy ryder, and diesel ryder from the joint doctor as well as a couple jet47's from flash. theyre all supposed to be low, fast flowering autos. i will most definitely make sure i have some ventilation. i have a couple fans to keep on the plants as well as an old computer fan i have rigged up to an old DC adapter that moves a surprising amount of air. i will be mounting that in the vent hole in the tent (its one of those grow tents with the mylar inside and the canvas outside) as an exhaust fan.
thank you for such a comprehensive answer. +rep :peace:

NP! Yeah I love the T5's. I'll be checking out your grow, I'm very interested in the ryder strains. Great idea with the ventilation, lots of fresh air equals great growth. Are you using any kind of root excelerator?

Not very familiar with the different varieties of nutes yet. I was just going to get some 10-10-10 from lowes and also use some molasses, i have read that its a great thing on the cheap when you start flowering. what are you using? any recommendations? Also i heard that a co2 system can be made by attaching a piece of tube to a soda jug, running that tube into a bowl of water (as to create a seal that the co2 can escape from) and filling the soda jug with sugar water and some simple bakers yeast. any thoughts?

These are the nutes I use, I was told by the owner of my local hydro store that this line has worked great for him and that he has tried alot of products. I find that over time and experience a lot of growers will pick certain nutrients from many lines and make their own mix. I believe it comes down to personal preference, for me the stuff below has been working awesome!

Botanicare Line

Pure Blend Pro veg formula: Veg stage, provides Nitrogen
Pure Blend Pro Bloom formula: Flower stage, increases phosphorous levels for flowers
Liquid Karma: Catalyst for nutrients working together, increases plants metabolic rate
Silica Blast: has beneficial organisms and strengthens stems, increases silicate which makes the plant strong (big sturdy stocks!)
Aqua Shield: liquid compost solution for soil or medium, great for clone roots and strong roots in adult plants (great foliar spray)
Hydroplex: 0-10-6 Bloom, increases plants resistance to external stresses; and amplifying enzyme, chlorophyll, and essential oil production.
Clearex: for flushing at the end, has surcose and glucose(sugars) to still give some boost to the flowers
CalMag: makes all your nutes work together and increases plants ability to take water and nutrients
Blast Off: has vitamins and hormones to increase plant growth, it is a plant growth stimulant

Advanced Nutrients

Liquid Carboload: (like molasses) it provides carbs for bloom stage to boost the size of the flowers. Works to improve your roots during flower cycle to absorb more nutrients and water, and is organic too. I would suggest getting bud candy if you go this route, has Liquid Carboload with other good stuff.

Humboldt Nutrients

Myco Madness: had beneficial organisms (fungi) that grow in the soil making your roots bigger in size (i use this to soak my Grodan blocks for clones) and whenever I transplant to give the roots a boost. First hand experience this stuff really works!)

I would also add a roots excelerator like Humboldt Nutrients "Humboldt Roots" (organic) or House and Garden "Root Excelurator" (synthetic). If you combine the 2 you get really big hairy roots which will give you a plant that will produce a huge yield. I've seen roots on this stuff and it is crazy.

I understand that I mentioned a lot of stuff above, it is not necessary to get everything at once. I was lucky to be able to start using all of the above within 2 months so the plants really got to use everything. I started with the silica blast and worked my way up.

As for the Co2, you can make a diy kit with bakers yeast, the only issue is you can't really get a consistent amount of flow being produced in my opinion. I would say some Co2 is better than none. If you go to co2boost.com, you can sign up for their organic Co2 producer. Perfect for a space like yours, produces Co2 for about 90 days, and they give one away every friday! I sign up every week. The last thing on my list for now is a Co2 tank and regulator. You pay for it in the beginning but it only cost 30 bucks to refill. You can also get a consistent, acurate flow of Co2.

As for your growing medium, good soil will make a difference as well. I would pass the miracle grow and go for something like Happy Frog organic soil or Coco based medium. REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE! 1.5 cubic bag of Happy Frog is about 17 bucks, well worth it!

Damn I wrote a lot...If you can, get the good nutrients from a hydro store or online, you will really see the difference.

Hope you get big fat flowers!:-P Here are some pics, everything above has been used for the ladies below.

Make sure your water pH is at 5-6. 5.5 is optimal for MJ plants, if your pH is too high it can be toxic for your plant

~6 weeks flowering. Bagseed. Soil. Compost teas. 4' - 6-bulb T5 HO. ~3" from lamp. 850ppm feedings of BMO Flower Power & AN Nirvana. 98% Organic? The only non-organic elements in this grow have been: 2 feedings of Silica Blast, and soil is amended with 30% MG Perlite with light MG nutes (.06ish % across the board - NPK). If you want to see more there's a link in my signature.

T5's will treat you well, enjoy.

Lovely flower picture, I totally agree with you on the T5's. I use them for clone and veg, then switch to HPS...Although next time I will have HPS with T5's surrounding sides. I love the compact growth in veg. stage.

Again nice picture!

Later with T5 about 3 inches above (raised light for picture) but you can see the tight compact growth.

Did you buy that DJ Short BB from seed or from clone? Beans are fucking exxxxxppppensive.
I got her from a collective, I purchased a bunch of different strains as teens and the lady told me she had 6 DJ Short blueberry mothers grown from seed. I took one right away! I would have gotten all of them if I had the space and money.

She was about 3 months old when I got her, grown in coco medium. I got her in a 3 gallon pot, transplanted her to a 5 gallon Geopot(they really work, well worth the money!)

Within a week I had roots growing out of the bottom! The bag is suppose to air trim the roots because they are breathable and I've seen it work first hand with my Casey Jones x Sour Diesel mother. I would see the tip of a root pop out and within a day or 2 the root would dissapear! I figure the blueberry has massive roots, i've been using Humboldt Nutrients Myco Madness with my regular nutes and that stuff really works! I think i'm going to put the 5 gallon geopot into a 10 to 15 gallon one!

Taking cuts off her tomorrow, can't wait!

Thanks! Yeah I wanted to do it right as well, I figured if i'm going to spend my time and money, might as well do it right for the potent, delicious flowers! I got to say the time and money you put into it will really show. I couldn't be happier with my grow so far! Good luck with your grow, definately get the root stuff! Well worth the money and it goes a long way.

I refined my cloning mix and now I get roots through the 4" blocks within 4-7 days! Things just get better with time and experience!
