Dang. Well, its an idea I've had for some month's now but I'm barely taking some action to make it a reality. I do have a few questions which I think you'll know :D

"You ever try farming not high? It's boring as shit!".. I feel at a farmers market you'd probably have a lot of competition since many other sellers have multi-acre access to such psychedelic edibles and for free.
Not where I live.

So does everyone agree that I should have filtered air blowing in? crating POSITIVE PRESSURE (opposite of what we do with our plants)

The next question is will a carbon filter suffice or do I still need to get a HEPA filter?

I may hang the filter/fan on the top, with a duct bringing it back to the floor...

Which brings the next question...

What kind of schedule should I have the ventilation set to? or do I leave it running 24/7 to keep the positive pressure?

If I leave it on... would I turn everything off for 30 minutes before I enter?

now.. to keep it clean... CLOROX WIPES work good enough?

No shoes... no street clothes... wash hands... what else... who's got some lab knowledge?

Do I need to buy sealed sterile gloves?

and most important... what am I missing??? lol...

Hello. :) Here by request!

Your setup is perfect. Your kit is perfect. The strains are perfect.

What's fucked is your ventilation, filtering of the air, and the use of clorox wipes for sterilization. It isnt that shrooms need ventilation, its that they need non contaminated air. Charcoal filters or any other filters we use for pot just remove smell. They dont really filter spores or bacteria. If anything, they are a harborer of them not a sterilizer!

What you NEED is a HEPA Filter system. Buy one at Wal-Mart and stick it in the room. That's it.

If you continue to input (or exhaust) fresh air to the room, you'll deprive the shrooms of their 99.9999% humidity love. That's why you fan and mist the tubs every few hours. They need fresh air exchange while fruiting, sure, but they dont need it ANYWHERE near marijuana does. Every 4 hours is PLENTY!

Now sure, you will probably want to exchange the air in your tent here and there too, which you'll do while you vent the tubs anyhow. :)

Now, onto the issue of sterilization. BLEACH SPRAY 5% bleach 95% distilled water (or boiled tap water). Use distilled all the way by the way, tap water at my old shop was full of shit and it really hurt things. Clorox wipes are cute too, but you really want some aerosol style spray that is a germ/bacteria/spore killer. I forgot the name of it, but they sell it at all the standard target/home depot/walmarts. Be sure to flame sterilize the needles and shake the spore syringes like your giving a handjob before you innoculate the jars. And finally, dont shake the jars. Just inject and leave them alone. The more they are handled the more the loose material compacts and the harder it is for the mycellium to form.

There's many mushroom gods here, I'm more of a mushroom apprentice than anything, so if anyone says I'm wrong on this stuff, I probably am and you should listen to them instea.d :) :)

Well... at least in the first round, the shelves will have multiple "tubs"... with each being it's own exclusive environment... just as it if were the only one under sink or in a closet...

The tent is easy to clean... and will help me keep it all clean and organized...

I can have jars getting ready in one tub and fruits coming out if the next...lol...

I also will have to wait and try it before I say anything... but I think I will be using the 2 tub method...

The lower tub is partially filled with water and has a heater... then the "chamber" sits on top of it...

It's cold here... and there is no central heating... so tubs sitting in warm water sound about right...lol....

Anyone ever use the 2 tubs like I described?

I see what your talking about, each tub will maintain its own humidity.

I dont know any one who uses the double tub method for their FC, only the incubator, I think it would work, some different heating methods i have seen work are

A small box or rubbermaid sealed with some incandesent lights inside, basically makes small heat box that radiates heat, normally just sitting at bottom of a grow tent, can get up to 100 degrees inside the rubbermaid, temps raise or drop with more air circulation

also some use those reptile heating pads that stick to the outside or bottom of an aquarium.

I was wondering when you were going to ring in. Listen closely because he has plenty to offer ;)

Google poor mans pod for a system of controlled environment fcs, and the tub in a tub (tit) style incubator is widely used with either a reptile mat or aquarium heater. I wish I could help you more Gypsy, but I only do monotubs with wbs spawn, which you might consider also once you get a bit of brf cakes under your belt.

Incubators and fruiting chambers are different things for different parts of the cycle. But first thing you should do when you have spores is make a bunch of lcs - liquid cultures, you will be set for many experiments without buying more spores.

One hint of advice.

It's best to start simple so you can better understand the process. Trial and error is your best teacher ;)
Sage advice, I spent a couple months planning my first brf jars, it is not like weed at all, so keep that in mind. Fungus is neither plant nor animal.

Fungi is incredibly fascinating. Just throw your head in a Paul Stamet's book and you'll find out what I mean! I'd say the toughest process is to maximize your yields and to shorten the incubation time. Once you got that down... it's all smooth sailings :D

Gotcha... one of those self standing units... like this...

If you continue to input (or exhaust) fresh air to the room, you'll deprive the shrooms of their 99.9999% humidity love. That's why you fan and mist the tubs every few hours. The idea with ventilating the tent was an attempt at creating a clean environment for the tubs to sit in... positive pressure in the tent would greatly reduces the chances of contamination...

And each tub would hold it's own micro climate...

But I see that it may be a silly idea...

Now, onto the issue of sterilization. BLEACH SPRAY 5% bleach 95% distilled water (or boiled tap water). Use distilled all the way by the way, tap water at my old shop was full of shit and it really hurt things. Understood... I'll be sure to break out some real poison..lol..

Does light hurt the jars? or should they be covered from light...?

Right on... but it seems that it should work for FC as well... as long as I can get the temps right... right?!?!?...lol...:-P

Spores are in hand... care to elaborate a little more?

Agreed...

I just want to have fun and learn... most of them will be shiitakes anyways...lol...

Got the book... reading it now...:-P

Thanks for your comments everyone!!!

I appreciate you being here...!!!

And things will get rolling with lots of pics when everything's here...:bigjoint:

measure out some distilled h2o and add 4-5% karo (light corn syrup), so 95-96% h2o with the rest karo. Measure it with a scale it is easier and more accurate. The proportions need to be accurate. 1ml=1g. 96ml/g h2o + 4ml/g karo = 100ml/g of lc.

Use what ever style ports and lids usually 1 or 2 holes, I use 1/4", and topwith foil and pc at 15psi 20 - 25 minutes, no more as the sugars will crystalize making it harder to see contams. When cooled, shoot each jar with 1cc spore solution, set aside and should see growth in 2 weeks or less. Will look like clumped jizz, if it is kinda stringy it may be contam. Shoot up whatever jars you are using.

This is a lc I made

Karo LC_Pan Clone 001.jpg

Do up a bunch so you increase your chances of success, but don't shoot more then 1cc of spore solution, more is not better and the proportions need to be pretty exact.
