there's no inexpensive solution, you would be better off growing a low odor strain like Northern Lights or Cinderella 99

I have to concur. Even a couple plants can get pretty stinky depending on the strain...I flower in a closet and in the closet it gets pretty stinky. I have an air-cooled hood for my light so I only have an intake fan, no exhaust. On the side of the room opposite I have a hepa filter/ionizer and my DIY Fabreeze bucket (pretty much the same as in this post: https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/99452-diy-febreze-odor-control-bucket.html
That takes care of the room containing the closet, we always keep that rooms door closed.

Just outside the room containing the closet I have a bigger air purifier/ionizer. We burn candles in the living area too. Any smell that escapes the grow room gets taken care of here. We have plenty of people in and out of our place and no one ever notices a smell, even smokers.

All in all though I have to say a carbon filter would probably do a better job. The good air purifiers arent cheap and you have to make sure that ionizers arent too close to the plants. I use them because I got the large one free and already had the small one. I just upgraded my lights, so I cant spend $ on the grow right now. As soon as I can Im grabbing a carbon filter. You should check out DIY filters, theres plenty of example on here.

Good advice. My first indoor grow was a strain that had a promising name, Bubblelicious. It sounded like it would smell sweet, like bubble gum. LOL was I off. When I put my girls into flower, I went into emergency mode, cutting a hole in the closet wall and installing a blow through fan to vent the closet into my bathroom and then outside.

If you are going to grow weed inside, you HAVE to have odor control on your list, or sooner or later, you will get popped. It's amazing all the strangers that start coming to your door when you have a grow going on. All of a sudden, I'm being bombarded by scouts, brownies, politicians, lawn care guys, etc... It seemed that before I grew indoors, I never had a visitor.... Go figure.

I keep a large jar of ONA GEL near my front door. If I am ordering pizza, or expecting someone over, I open the jar, place it on top of my tall display cabinet, and leave it. My grow is in a tent, with a carbon scrubber and a vortex on a controller. I have the smell contained, but I'm paranoid about odors. I also have an ozone generator and two ion fountains nearby. Better safe than sorry. If any cop was to be at my front door and stating they smell fresh marijuana, I'm going to call him a liar to his face and tell him to move along, nothing to see here.

+rep Serapis! I just bought some of the Ona Gel and it works GREAT! I put a little in a few dixie cups and placed around my room when I have family over and none are the wiser. I have a 4x2 space and use a 4" Elf carbon filter and 4" inline fan.

here is an attachment on a bunch of DIY carbon filters! Good luck and like Serapis said, better safe than sorry!

Thanks for all this info. How much do carbon filters usually go for? And where can i find Ona Gel?
You can find Ona Gel at most hydroponic stores, if you can't you can order it from sunlight supply company or another online hydrostore. I belive I got a jar of the gel rocks for about 17 bucks. It goes along way! The best thing is the gel rocks dehydrate and shrink up, you can buy a refill liquid and you just pour it back on your existing gel rocks.

I got a 4" Elf carbon filter and 4" inline hydrofarm fan for about 130 total with tax. Got some ducting which is pretty cheap and there you go.

Good luck with your filter setup, i'm anxious to see what you do!

i always come back to this contraption.... make 1 or two of those.

Ona costs about 15-20 bucks a jar. the buckets costs 1.50 at home depot, the fan is also pretty cheap during the summer, right now i don't know where you'll find a fan....
That's a great idea! The hydrostore guys told me a lot of their customers put a little in a few dixie cups and place around the room. Ever since I got the stuff I run a fan from my window into my room and a fan and carbon filter in the flower room with the door open for plenty of fresh air. I put a 3 red plastic dixie cups with a little inside and put at 3 of my corners. Does not smell outside at all, doesn't even smell in the room unless you actually touch a bud and smell your finger. The stuff shouldn't effect the flavor if you don't over do it. A little goes a long way!

As far as the fan, hydrostores always have them, office supply stores and craigslist works great too for used equipment. Good luck!
