Anyone use Lava Rocks?

I recently read an article claiming the dynamics and benefits of using lava rocks in soil containers. I've heard of cannabis in hawaii being so unique because it grows in lava rock rich areas. Anyone put lava rock to the test? Any results?

Actually, when you think about it, it was living at one point. Lava is basically hundreds of thousands of years of dead bacteria, plant and animal matter that has been forced downwards by platetechtonics. The material heats up and forms molten rock that is ejected by volcanoes. As a result when lava rock breaks down, it releases a constant supply of micronutrients into the soil.


Can perlite be cut out of soil mixes completely and be replaced with lava rocks?
