L.A. Woman 4th Grow First H.I.D. Grow

It kind of got lost in the archives of RIT.

Anyway I have about 20 clones now few of them rooted 10 were cut a week later than others.

I have my exhaust, intake, 600watt HPS system and everything setup. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. My space is 5.6' x 4.6' x 7.5'.

I was going to try a SOG grow but have never done one.I'm not wanting to have a long veg period for this first harvest. I was thinking I would veg them for about a week hopefully they'll be 8-10 inches and I'll flip the light cycle from 18/6 to 12/12.

Will my clones veg good under a 600watt HPS. I just invested about $1300 into this and do not have the extra cash for a 600watt MH or MH Conversion bulb.

I'm using 3 gallon grow bags 7.5" x 6.5" x 12.75"

Another question I have about my ballast and socket set.
It says it has a smart chip and accepts and adjusts for either a HPS or a MH. However it didn't have the option to buy a 600watt MH only a 600watt MH conversion bulb. I have never used H.I.D. lighting always used the sun or CFL's so not sure about using a MH or MH conversion bulb for the next time I veg a new batch.

I'll post some new pics soon right now working on an area to keep my mother so I can start the clones soon hopefully by this weekend or next weekend.

Also If I wanted to use my HPS 600watt on the clones how far should it be away for the light intensity not to hurt the clones. It is about 4 feet above them now but it' not on I have 6 25watt CFL's on them and the mother currently.

What can I expect to yield in this space with a 600watt HPS with a 1 week veg.

How much will the 600nwattn hps raise the temperature in my area? It is normally 60*F degrees with no heater. I have a 6" 434CFM fan with a speed controller pulling through the hood and a 210cfm carbon filter. I will run some test runs in the room when I get an area to put my mother and clones that are not yet rooted. However Now I'm thinking I could run the light without a fan in the hood? What do you guys think?

The 600hps will work for veg, it tends to make the plants a bit more leggy... so a short veg is a good idea, I would use the cfl to keep the mom and babies
as for how much to expect it depends on more than just the light, but the 600w is the best for a small garden. I would run the fan threw the hood, they can throw some heat

Yeah I have the fan pulling threw the hood setup currently. I believe I'm going to try and do a perpetual harvest. (4 Plants every two weeks). I have started getting the area ready for my mother tonight. I will update some pics from my old thread shortly I'll post a few from 1-24-2011 before I received the HPS, fans etc. I'm hoping the heater I use to heat my bloom room can be used to keep my mother and cuttings around 72-78*F after getting the HPS and fan dialed in hoping flower room will stay around 70-75*F

So you think the HPS with fan attached will heat the room up at least 10-15*? If so this would be perfect and hopefully can run the 6" grow bright in-line fan on a slow setting.

Now will it be alright if my room gets down to 60*F for the 12 hours when the light will be off for the entire flowering period(like if they root and throw right into flower and it gets to 58-60*F the first night and every night after) will they be okay and what can expect for the low temps threw out the flowering process?

I meant in optimum conditions (minus c02 implemented) for a week eg or no veg> I found some useful information and pretty sure I know what I'm going to try for the first go. Will keep this thread as a grow journal so I can keep track of when I do what.

2nd set 2-5-11

I would let the clones live with the mom for a week or so after the roots show.. let them get a good start
most of the smell comes from the flower area, you could run the air threw the filter then the light, then into the veg area then to exhaust, reuse the heat from the light to warm the veg area
they wont mind the temp it gets colder near fall naturally, or you could run the light at night and off during the day that may regulate the temp a bit better
four plants / 2 weeks is about what I am shooting for as well

Yep 4 every 2 weeks sounds nice I can't wait. At the moment my veg/clone area is going to be pretty far away from bloom room until I get my final veg/clone room together that will be a month or two from now. My current veg/clone is small it won't take much to raise temp. 10*+

Also my room stays 60*F during day and night times.

I just realized another question. I know that electric companies charge you more during certain hours(and dependent upon season too I believe.)

Can someone tell me when these times would be during winter and summer I would think it be they charge more on the KWH after 5-6pm because that is when most people get home from work? Anyway I want to have my dark period during the peak hour where they charge more for the KWH.

I think the HPS light will keep my room the right temp if I get the fan speed controller dialed in right when the light is on.

canibud do you have a grow journal or anything going?

I'll snap some pics this friday when I start moving the mother and babies and I'll do the test runs for temps and humidity. I only have the weekends off work so thats only time I really have to be here and keep an eye on things. Hopefully can get it dialed in quickly.

I may be able to do 6 plants every 2 weeks we'll see.

Oh yeah I wanted to add a little more info...

This is what I'll be using in the bloom room.

Soil - Fox Farm Happy Frog Jump Start with 15-20% perlite mixed in
Nutes - Fox Farm's Tiger Bloom
3 Gallon Grow bags with 10" clear vinyl saucers
600 watt HPS light rated at 95000 Lumens
6" Inline exhaust fan (434cfm) and 210cfm carbon filter.
6" dual flange euro reflector
16" Wall mount fan for air circulation and for a breeze under the HPS
Room size is 5.6' x 4.6' x 7.5'

I'm going to try and do 4 to 6 plants in 4 different sections all clones will be cut 2 weeks apart. and after a few months I hope to pull a qtr to a half lb. or more of dried, cured L.A. woman smoke

Dont really know about different rates at different times...
I have started a journal.. first areoponic grow, using T5's for veg and a 600w hps for bloom

Well here are some pics as promised. Didn't get to do much today I left work early so I could move things but as soon as I got home my cousin called and I went and fixed his truck for him so arrived home later than I would of leaving work at normal time LOL. Anyway Pictures!

Well seems if I put the fan controller on the slowest setting it maintains whatever temp it was at when the light heats up. If i turn the fan up any the temp will just continue to decrease and go lower than 70*F

Still a lot more testing to do and also have the furnace yet to come into play. I figure by this weekend I will have it dialed in. I hope the HPS doesn't hurt the babies I have them moved to a corner with a grow bag covering them up to keep the light intensity down also the light is 3.5-4 ft. above them.

Think I like the adjustment to HID's though

Looks good, the young ones may stretch a bit but they will do fine... normally I see the fan next to the filter, does it work ok for you pulling air that far? and does the fans vibration go threw the walls? Usually I see them hanging with the filter then the light thats why I ask

I have seen both placements of the filter used. I found this way to be more efficient for my area. It pulls great however my fan is rated well over the filter and the cubic size of my room I don't run it full power so it's quite, Their is no vibration on the fan at it's current speed on the outside of the wall. My oscillating fan however does vibrate the wall a bit.

Okay so for the room currently.

If I do not run my exhaust fan at all my light heats it up to 77-79*F If I run the fan with the controller on the lowest setting it stays between 70-73*F so will be deciding on what to do and trying some different things over the weekend. I also decided my 2 week cycle will be with 6 plants every 2 weeks now. With the first cycle being vegged for a week and the rest with no veg.

Okay well having trouble seeing roots. I have used this method of cloning before except I did fewer clones and also just stuck them in 5 gallon buckets of soil to root(with half 2 liter and a bag to hold humidity). This time I'm using root riot cubes with a 7" tall humidity dome and well let's just say their not rooting as fast as past ones I have done. Has anyone else used these for clones and if so what was your experience with them. I think next go I'll use this tray but fill the 1.5" sqaures with soil.We'll see how it goes. A few of them look fried from the H.I.D. but I don't know could just be the clone using up the nitrogen. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

HPS will be fine for you. Im using 2x 600w. next to one another. 1 has MH other HPS. So I vegged some plants under HPS, and Flowering some plants under MH.

I thought so.. Thanks for chiming in and confirming. I was going to try and buy a MH or MH conv. bulb but instead I'm going to buy a backup 600watt HPS bulb just in case anything goes wrong with mine, Even though its brand new and under warranty for a year. I don't want to be without during replacement.

Hope I get roots soon. Their still alive so thats a good sign lol

What do you guys do with all your soil after harvest? I've never done more than 5 plants so I have no idea what to do with everything that will be left over. Plant material will be made into hash and what to do with the trimmings after taking all the thc out?

I used to mix mine in the garden in the back yard, but that is what got me into the aeroponic setup... no more soil, the left over leaves and crap I toss in the trash... but I only grow personal so I dont get huge piles of it
