Ez All, my reason for building this was 1)Anything off the shelf didn't fit my space, and 2) hoping to sell my place this year so wanted to do something with minimum damage to the flat.
First off bought one of these (£20): http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500002701&langId=-1&searchTerms=FABRIC+COVERED+TIDY+RAIL+SINGLE+WARDROBE+-+BLACK, here's a few pics of it up in the front room: , the material it's made from is quite light weight, it's the stuff they put round cushions or you can buy as pillow protectors - it is not 100% light proof but mine is in a fitted wardrobe which is sealed as well so that's not an issue. The frame itself is stated as being able to support 8 kilos but I reckon it could take a bit more than that.
Next got 2 rolls of this (currently on sale at £6): http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=20001&partNumber=694573&Trail=searchtext%3ERADIATOR+INSULATION, really easy to use, and handily has grid lines over it making straight cuts a doddle!
Whilst the thing was up in the front room I used the pritt pads supplied with the foil to attach it to the outside and cut to measure:
Here's a couple of pics of the grow as was before the install:
Moved the whole thing to the room and dismantled in half (had to as the space is so tight couldn't fit in whole), fitted bottom section in first then added top half (I actually added the poles individually and then put the top brackets back on),
before doing this though I had to remove the skirting board to get a bit of extra room and to also make room for the duct I'm going to add in the next week or so for extraction (shall update then as well if there's any interest) was easy to prize off with no damage and so should go back on with no sign of being removed :
also it was slightly to high when in there to fit under the existing hanging rail so reversed the footing bracket (the holes for the poles are present on both the top and bottom side, this gave me the extra 20mm I needed ):
Once this was all done and back together it looked like this:
it was time to put the foil up, I had some carpet tape to hand so used this to stick the stuff up at the top and bottom: , with the roll being 50mm itself no cutting of the edges was needed, only lengths, and it was just the right width so it could be tucked behind the poles
Had a break for some munch:
And this is what it looked like finished: View attachment 1428483
Just to show the non light proofing, here's a pic with grow light on but room light off (hence long exposure!), no foil on door side but may fit some white plastic sheeting to it :
here's a pic from a side with foil though, no light leak! (lol yeah I know it's just black that's the point !)
and with outer door shut it's just a wardrobe
All in all about 2 hrs to do and £32 cost, pretty happy with it overall. Let me know what ya think, Mog.
