Growing with CFL's getting this to add to it.. what do you think?

HEllo all!

so i have a Mazar/LA confidental mix going.. been on 12/12 since 1/2/11 and has been flowering since 1/12/11...

right now I have 7 -23w 2700 CFLs on it 5 on top 2 on the sides as well as 1 -15 watt tube on the side

my friend is buying me this...

how much do you think this well help my yield? I'll probably move 3 of the CFLs to the sides for a total of 5 on the sides 2 on top with this LED grow board

I'd say you have a nice friend looking out for your yield. I would have a couple of CFL bulbs each on those long stems that are developing the flowers, maybe up to 4 on the long ones. With a tall plant like that, only the very top will benefit from that LED panel. That strain looks to be an excellent candidate for topping and training. If the stalks don't bulk up, you may need to put in some stakes to support the buds.

Nice looking plant, I wouldnt get that led though the cheap ones dont put out the right spectrum (so ive heard)

the buds are growingnow like crazy.. i acutally tied three of the tops together so they are supporting them selves.. it made it alot easier for me to put 2 cfls right over the three and allowed me to use the other three to hit the lower ones (as well as the 3 lights on the sides hitting all of the sides and inside

I thought you couldn't top during flower? or do you mean cutting the top buds once they are done.. and letting the lower plant continue to develop?

well its free. lol! so when I get it and I see slowage of growth or what not.. i'll know its bogus..

I was referring to the next time on the topping and training.

I might add, if it were me, I would not tie tops together for support. This limits light reaching the inside of your buds. Use stakes and spread those colas out. Great thing with CFLs is you can focus light on buds. I'd get bulbs on all of those bud sites. In fact, I'd rather have more CFLs and some reflector dishes than the LED light. (but you do have a nice friend)

okay yeah I was tying them outwards for awhile but it just kept getting bigger and bigger. lol!

this was topped twice when it was a baby but I should have done some LST as well.. I didn't realize that it wold double in size once you flower.. lol!!!

but yeah this pic of the plant is just in my bathroom before I took it back to its grow box.. every cola has a light over it there are 4 big ones with 5 smaller ones coming up

I'm hoping with an Actual RED spectrum it will dense the buds more since the CFL's are more like Orange. I know this board isn't very strong but i'm really hoping it will help.


here is sort of how i have my lights set up.. you can only see some of them.. and I usualy move the sides ones around at 6 hours.. (when i go home for lunch lol!)

I like the way you have your bulbs around the bud sites. Get more lol....

The 2' from plant tops isn't because of heat, it is so they can claim it covers a 4' x 4' area. Just keep in mind, the closer it is the better, but the smaller area that benefits.

yeah what yu don't see is I also have a rack that hangs over the plants where I cna clamp lights on it... its flat and is about 4-5 inches from the top of the colas so I'm planning on just laying the board on that so it shines down and take 2 of the CFL's and place them on the other sides so I have light coming from all sides.. and keep 3 on top with the board. I'll post some pics when I get home... the ones you see are about a week or 2 old.

I have one of those LED panels as well. They're all the same, and probably also all made in china; mine has some blue LEDs on it as well. They're actually 2-3x the price of a 30W CFL here.

The heat mine puts out is amazing. It's nothing on the heat from 6 30W CFLs that I have going, but it is substantial and I'm sure increases temperatures 2-3c (although I have a very small cabinet - I think similarly sized to yours).

Let me know if you have heat issues with it. Mine seemed to work while my plants were still seedlings but it wasn't really necessary and it obstructed airflow somewhat. I'll try it again during flowering if I can improve cooling.

right on.. yeah mine are all in flower now.. and the red should help (i'm hoping) I have 7 CFLs on my plants and have fans running so I'm not sure heat will be an issue
how far are you along?

Only a couple weeks. You'll probably be fine with it, but don't expect any massive differences because these panels are just a bit flimsy and rubbish.

Turn it on and stare at it though and it'll probably give you epilepsy haha.

those led lights are 100% perfect for a clone case, i have a multi spec on just like that from amazon, it has blue red orange and white spectrums, and works perfectly for my clones, skeek.

yeah the one I have is a red spectrum only.. i have it working with my CFL's.. it seems to be working well.
