HELP!! What deficiency is this??

Hello all,

I can't, for the life of me, figure out what deficiency I am having with my plants. It's the same deficiency in my veg plants as in my flowering plant. Both plants' leaves are curling at the tips, downwards. I've read that this could be a nitrogen deficiency, plus the leaves were starting to yellow, so I fed them some nitrogen nutrients, and the yellow started to gradually go away, but the tips curled even more hardcore.

Here is what I'm using:
-4 23w 6700k CFL's for the veg plants (humidity between 39-55% all day,with an oscillating fan blowing around, on 18-6) (jacks orchid special nutes and distilled water)

-600watt hps Eye Hortilux Bulb for flowering plant on 12-12 (jacks all purpose and bloom booster nutes and distilled water)

Blotchy, sorta looks like mold, probably phosphorus... Or mold...

The flowering plants look okay, you might see some burning out of them in the coming days though based on the tips of the leaves so you might want to flush and top dress that soil with a little dolomite to ensure you have a micro-element pH buffer going on.

Don't look bad, I wouldn't worry about the younger plants unless the problem really started to spread. Those lower leaves are not all that important in the scheme of things.

Ok, thanks for your fast reply.

Some of the lower leaves looked worse on all plants, so I just plucked them off. They were very brittle and shriveled up.

It's pretty humid where the veg plants are. Between 39-55% all day.

your veg plants problem is nute burn, cut back on your feeding amount/frequency

your flower plants def is N and Mag, most folks that follow the myths and mis-information let em die in flower for all the wrong reasons and most bloom nutes promote this,,,,,if you believe in the myths just give em a Cal/Mag suppliment if you wanns be a real gardener feed em some veg nutes

Riddleme, yeah I don't feed into that stuff, i've read through a lot of yours and uncle bens threads, so I feed them veg and flower nutes as needed, but it seems like i either add too much or not enough. The tips ALWAYS curl, and the only time they don't is when they go too long without water.

Ill try some more veg nutes though. Thanks for the recommendation.

If your feedin em veg nutes already, then I have to ask if you have flushed at all? you could have a salt buildup causing a lockout or a PH imbalance, do you check your runoff ph? askin cause the burn on your veg plants indicates you may be over nuting

I've only fed the veg plants once, last week, other than that, they've been on distilled water only, in FFOF soil. The flowering plant, though, is the one that I use veg and flower nutes as needed.

Before I switched to flower nutes I only fed them distilled water for 1 week and then start them on the flower nutes. Still, nothing came of it, and its condition has been the same, except, now it is showing buds and growing a little.

It's been in the tent for awhile now, and I figured something was wrong because it's short as hell. I know topping limits its height a little, but man, its only 2 1/2 ft tall and its been growing since Thanksgiving week.

I water all of them about every 2 days, when I cant feel moisture in the soil when I put my finger in it. I'm not sure?? My veg plants were at 65% humidity today, after being watered last night.

The flower plant has an almost perfect living enviornment, but its tips and the veg tips, still keep curling.

I would have to say that 75% of the sick plants I see in this forum are being fed Distilled water. This is a unifying theme among growers with really difficult to diagnose issues.

Why a grower would choose distilled water is beyond me. For the same price you should be using Reverse Osmosis filtered water.

Distilled water has zero "contaminants" and as a result the pH will swing wildly. Also, the water itself, alone, will actually drain elements out of the plant to establish equilibrium.

There are other reasons not to grow with distilled. I read an article on it a while back, and the answer is quite technical and involves the process the water goes through and how this affects the water molecules. Sounds kinda crazy on the surface but the explanation I got made sense.

Please switch water. They are the same price anyway...

I need to organize the reasons why a person should not use distilled or deionized water and start a thread for the noob growers so I can have fewer plants to have to resolve in here. If you choose not to switch from Distilled (for whatever hardheaded reason) your plants will continue to suffer.

Probably on the shelf next to Distilled water. Just keep your eyes peeled.

Also, all the water machines located around town, usually in front or inside of the local grocery are RO filtered water. Usually $0.25 to $0.35 per gallon.

Any at home water delivery service, like Alhambra or Glacier or others, will have the option for both.

Check out your grocery store or WalMart. Read the labels because there are several different methods of purifying water. Distillation, De-ionization and Reverse Osmosis are the most common. You do not want "reverse osmosis with minerals added" as for drinking water. Get the one that says "reverse osmosis" and nothing else. I get mine at Wal-Mart for 69 cents/gallon. Good Luck!
