This is my very first attempt at growing. I have gleaned what I could from these forums and so far everything seems to be going good. I just thought I would put up some pics to get some feedback since you all are much wiser than I.

The seeds came from some of the best "beasters" I have ever had. If the slang is not the same where you are... we call "beasters" weed that is good but has seeds. Sort of like a lvl over regs. Anyways, I figured that if I could grow these as female-only they should prove to be pretty good since the male plants were so good. Am I way off-base here?

I will stay with veg for one more week and then begin flowering. I am growing in MG potting soil and after a month I started them on Peter's All Purpose plant food. When I move into flowering I will be using Molasses and Green Light Blossom Booster. I am using a 250W HPS for lighting. Here are some pics of the crop about 7 weeks into veg. They have been tied down for about a week.

The couple plants that are circled in blue are from a different strain (also unknown) where I found just 3 seeds in an oz of chronic. Whatever the strain is, it is much more finnicky as they are nowhere near as healthy as the others under the exact same conditions.

One of my questions are, do I have room to grow in a slightly larger area with the lighting I am using or should I stick with about the area I have now?

Here we are 2 weeks into flowering. I have never had to sex these plants before so I have attached 4 pics for some second opinions. I have them labeled as what I believe them to be so please let me know if I am wrong.

Also, am I catching these males too late (I just cut down 3 males today)? Have they already seeded some of the females at this point?

Well Im new at this growing so I dont know but just letting you know somebody is out there brotha. Im just trying to keep your post at top so someone can say something. But those are beautiful, something like art...I may just be saying this cuz Im high but who knows.

Males will have pod hanging affairs at the junctions. And no, its way too early in your flowering to pollinate the girls. When the male pods pop open, then is when pollen is being disbursed.

i must be ripped but i cant even tell sex in those pictures. maybe because i cant see all the color and the view in 3d like if i was looking at it.. are u sure those are all even showing? if those spears are green then that means nothing right off.. if they're white they're girls if you get grapes their boys. try taking a picture that has more color if u can. and dont mistake a girlpreflower for balls girlpreflowers are fuzzy

Today I replanted a few of the plants that have been stuck in a smaller pot until I could get some larger ones. So far I have 6 plants that looks to be doing very well. The larger pots should really help those plants spread their roots outs. I am guessing that I need to be careful with the nutes since the new soil is more of the Miracle Grow potting soil that has plan foot already in it. I'll just step back the water additives a little and see how it goes.

Up until this point I have been spraying them daily with carbonated water but today I setup the homebrew CO2 generator (sugar, yeast, and water) which you can see in the yellow gallon jug which I will be placing inbetween the pots. Should just one of these be fine? I was planning on setting up another one (to run two total) once we empty our current milk jug.

As you can see in the pics below a few little buds are starting to form now... me and the wife are pretty excited! I think the new CO2 generator should help alot, too. Next crop I think I am going to give aeroponics a shot instead of dirt.

Well, here we are 28 days into flowering. So far so good... no real problems to speak of and the ladies are doing great! (Lucky first grow, maybe? ) I took some pics to show them off since I am so proud of them. I can now start to see crystals/hairs forming on the leaves around the forming buds... makes my mouth water when I look at them and harvest day cannot come fast enough! Remember that these were seeds from bags BUT the bags were gooooooood. The two plants that I started with which were from some serious hydro-style plants both are doing great and both ended up female (I wish I had cloned them now)! The other 4 plants are from what SHOULD have been good stuff but whoever grew it didnt take care to get rid of the males... ie. the stuff was suprisingly good for the ton of seeds it had. Luckily I saved those seeds and now I can see how the plant was meant to smoke WITHOUT seeds. I am actually looking forward to trying that out more than the seeds I know to be real good.

I continue to water them every other day and foliar feed them 2 - 3 times a week now. Bending the plants over when vegging really filled out the plants and I will get some more pics to show you what I mean soon. It forced the plants I bent over (this was an expiriment so only half of them were bent) to make one of the lower branches the main stem. As a result, the plants that are bent have 2 - 3 stems which all look to be the main one. I think future crops will all be bent like this for me. As you can see, I did experience some stretching which I think I know how to avoid now. I can really see how each crop has the potential to be better than the previous one due to trial and error learning and tweaking your habits/technique.

So, from what I have read it looks like when I expect the plants to be ready to harvest in a couple weeks to cut back to water-only for feeding (both regular and foliar) to flush out any excess chemicals.... also I read somewhere that you can mix some molasses in with the water to help plump and sweeten the buds a bit. Any other tricks to enhance crop taste?

Thanks for all of the great info on this site! Without it I would not have been doing so well on my first attempt. Me and the wife are just looking to grow our own so that we can save money by not buying it from other people.

No feedback or suggestions? One thing that I messed up on when planting these is that I used straight up soil with no perlite or vermiculite. Would that have made a big difference? Next crop I think I will be going with an aeroponics setup, though.

Looking good man. I looks like you can see the crystals starting to form around the flowers.
Any chance you might add another 250 watter for your next grow. I think it would be beneficial based on the area you are growing over.
Don't know shit about soil,sorry dude, I grow hydro. It's my first grow and I def recomend it.

I have seen some lights on Ebay that cover the MH and HPS spectrum ranges in one hood and is 400W. I plan on getting that in teh near future but for now I think I may supplement the 250W HPS with some CFLs on the side.

I mixed up a second jug for generating CO2 using an old laundry detergent bottle. I rinsed it out till no suds formed when shaking it full of water. Now that the yeast is fermenting in it there is a distinct detergent smell coming out with the usual fermentation smells when shaking the bottle up. Do you think this wierd CO2 will hurt anything?

Can anyone confirm what I asked earlier about adding molasses to the water for the last 2 weeks of watering before harvest?

Here is a couple pics of the plant that was bent over fairly early during veg. As youc an see, the secondary branches did indeed step up their growth so now it is hard to disecern the main stem from the top of the plant.

The 3rd pic is of some of the secondary buds growing at the node sites of one of the plants known to be higher quality. The 4th pic is also of this plant. Notice how many of the leaves (especially the newer ones) are curling under on the sides of the leaves as well as the tip. They leaves look healthy otherwise and these plants undergo the same feeding regimen as the other plants which look great. Is this maybe just a characteristic of this type of strain?

cfl's on the side will help the lower bud sites get more light... thats good... get another 250 w or 400 w light from High Tech Garden Supply. you can get an MH conversion bulb there as well, for vegging.

I meant that I first bent it over when it was vegging with 24 hours light. I think I bent it when it was about a month old. I have been flowering with 12/12 for about a month now.

Oi mate, icic keep up the good work.

its a funny lookin plant you got... but hey its not 100% handicap its only 50% haha its growing bud and thats the only thing that counts.

Today when watering the plants I saw that there are quite a small bugs hanging around which look to be fruit flies (attracted by the fermenting sugar and yeast I am sure). Are these something I need to worry about? Cab they hurt the plants? If so, how do I get rid of them?

Here are a couple pics to update you on the progress. Also, I believe I have a handle on the gnats that started to pop up. I let the soil get really dry (almost TOO dry) and I then fluffed up the top layer of soil before wtering them again and afterwards I covers the top of the soil with dry paper towels. I have already seen a small decrease in gnats as a result. There are not enough to be a big problem but I am keeping a clsoe eye on them.

Check out the last two pics. The 3rd and 4th pic are of the two better plants from a known good bag of green (not sure of the strain). Notice how the 4th pic of one of the plants has fewer pistils and that the green leaves growing with the buds are much thicker than the other plant and they curl under and have ALOT more crystals on them. This particular plant in the 3rd pic has had a rough time and has lost 80% of it's sun leaves (the lwoer 80%). However, at the sites where the sun leaves broke off, buds are still forming and flowering there but in the odd way I described. Has anyone else ever ran into this behavior before? It will be interesting to see how differently they smoke. I wish harvest day would come soon... I am not a patient person.

I am still trying to identify the plants, too. The 4 regular plants smell sort of like Juicey Fruit gum if you touch any of the crystals and then smell your finger and the 2 better plants smell like really sweet mangos when you do the same. Any ideas?

Well here we are at day 42 into flowering. Today I harvested the first homegrown plant I have ever grown! Remember when I was talking about the two nice plants and how one of them was losing all of it's sunleaves and branches? Well that plant seemed to mature alot faster than the rest of the plants so today I decided to cut her down and trim her up. a good portion of the tricrome had a small mushroom tip to them and over 75% of the hairs on the plant were reddish. It was about to lose it's last two sunleaves so I wanted to cut her down before anything else degraded further.

In the first pic below you can see the cut-down plant and the second pic shows the other plant that is the same type but seemed to grow much better under the exact same conditions... strange but true.

The 3rd and 4th pic shows the clippings I saved from the trimming. One set is low-grade trimmings for some future cannabutter (once I harvest the rest of the crop) and the other trimmings on the plate are good in that they were taken from around the buds themselves and contain quite a few crystals on them. These will be smoked. I have actually started drying these clippings as well as a couple of the lower buds near a space heater (but not too close) so they can be smoked later tonight. Yes, I know it won;t be near as strong as properly cured bud but I am impatient and this stuff smells goooooooood.

The last pic shows the extra lighting I have added recently including 2 1600 Lumen daylight CFLs to help supplement the 250w HPS light.
