The tents are looking good at day 5. Things are getting nice and green on most plants. I am happy. Let's see if I can keep em in the comfort zone for another 55 days!

It's hard to get the white balance right under HPS lamps.

Some girls at Day 5 of flower.

I expect we will see even more stretch now - which is why I am not even going to bother trying to get them closer to the light as I should have done last week. I was about 30 inches from the tops yesterday on average - with some closer. They grew another inch last night. My temps and humidity have been so nice, that I didn't want to put the light closer and change that nice balance I have been enjoying.

Read that as lazy! On bigger grows with air cooled hoods, I like to put the lights right next to each other, and start and finish with them at the same height. I may waste light by having my lights higher at the start, but temps are easier to manage and if your timing is right, they grow into the light (humidity decreases as a byproduct) as they need it. I kind of adopted the same mentality in the tents. I don't like to duct lights and have to allow for the extra ducting required for height changes.

In the end, light is the engine, so giving them as much light as they can handle is the high yield method of growing. With Adjust-a-Wings, I do like to keep them right at 18" over the plants; they are so light and easy to move, no ducting, etc.

It's easy to raise and lower your Adjust-a-Wing light. Here the light is raised for maintenance mode.

Nice! Your grow looks real efficient. Keep up the good work. I can tell you are pretty anal about your grows -- (I mean that in a good way). That type of attention to detail gets you the best end results. I've been at about 80% on this grow. Getting my plants closer to the lights in the prior weeks would have been an easy way to up my score!

Haha thanx for the compliment. Ya its from trial n error. In my first grow I had to put both my plants down cuz they were infected with botrytis and I didnt know how to cure it at the time. Ever since then I make sure there is PLENTY of air circulation in my tent. But your grow is on a much larger scale so I understand you dont have the time to pay attention to smaller details in both your grows.

No stupid questions here. Your question is quite good! This is helpful for all who would like to photograph the true color of your garden while it is being lit by HPS lights. Without adjusting white balance, pictures will naturally show the orange light cast by HPS light. To compensate, we can reset the value of white; white balance. Consult your manual to figure out how to set the WB of your camera. My Canon PowerShot SD960 IS has a custom WB setting; as do most digital cameras these days. Set the white balance while focusing on a blank white piece of paper held just over your plants under the HPS light. Once you know how to set WB on your camera, you will find yourself using it all the time. Anytime you change light settings, adjust your WB too.

My remote bathroom zone has not been running as well as the tents have. I have been using a recycling timer to turn the intake/exhaust fans off and on, but it has been a hard game to keep on top of as the ambient temps have been swinging 30F degrees during the day - with very cold temps at night. The girls are feeling the stress. I will get them sorted out, but I basically lost a week on these girls! In the end, it's only a waste of electricity, but that is huge. I think I am going to break down and purchase a CAP AIR-1 to control the ventilation. I know where to get them on the cheap refurbished with a 5 year warranty.

In the meantime, I made a couple improvements to the intake/exhaust runs coming into the bathroom and then in and out of the zone. The plastic over the door does wonders to modulate the hot and cold spikes -- though it can heat things up to dangerous levels if not vented often enough. Several plants exhibit light burn - and other symptoms of temp stress.

The intake run got mounted to the ceiling, as it should have been originally!

A clever, but simple door header above any doorway makes for an easier way to run ducting in and out of a zone.

Here is the zone side of the header. I will place plumbers putty to fill in the gap between the header holes and the duct.

The intake air spills onto the floor, mounted to the wall with tape. The floor fan deflects off the wall and blows air nicely through the plants. The upper AirKing fan moves hot air generated by the lamp.

Yesterday was day 6 for the girls in the tents. I gave them their first feeding over 1000PPM; 1100 at 5.85PH of the Soul Synthetics week 1 flower formula (weeks 1 - 4 are the same on the feeding schedule, but I am building up my PPM's over the course of these first 4 weeks - climaxing at week 6 with 1400PPM. I don't think I will go much beyond that for this run - unless I see the need. I can't decide if I'm going to stray at all from the SoulSynth line up. I will likely add some extra carbs, maybe some budswell, some tea, etc... but I am not going to use any phospho loaders or PGR's of any sort.

At Day 6 of Flower, these girls drank 1100 proof plant tonic.

The saloon in Tent2.

I love the stature of the Skywalker. These plants are naturally forming a crown of buds around the main stalk.

.

Thanks!

Wow - I'm looking over my grow notes and it was interesting the way I ran this time. I try to plan what I want to feed to my plants and when - actually writing it down on a calendar - and then try to follow that schedule as best I can taking into consideration the actual physical appearance of the plant. Due to weather and whatever, I had to alter course a bit towards the end of veg ( I mention it in a prior post how I had fallen behind a feed). So while this is what I did, this is not the schedule I wanted to follow.

  • 2.10 - transplant to 9x9 square 160/6.0 - of B1 and SS grow
  • 2.11 - nothing
  • 2.12 - 600 / 6.0 late veg formula - moved the lights to 18/6
  • 2.13 - nothing
  • 2.14 - lite water with CalMag only 200 / 5.9
  • 2.15 - nothing
  • 2.16 - nothing
  • 2.17 - switched to early flower formula 885 / 5.9
  • 2.18 - nothing - switched lights to 12/12
  • 2.19 - nothing - switched to HPS lamps
  • 2.20 - nothing
  • 2.21 - lite feed early flower formula 450 / 6.0
  • 2.22 - nothing
  • 2.23 - good feed at 1100 / 5.85 early flower formula
