Roots growing out of 4 gal pots

I transplanted two plants a week and half ago into 4 gal pots. I got them as clones 3 weeks ago they are about 12" growing really fast. Roots are starting to grow out the 4 gal pot hole at the bottom. They are growing in a sunshine mix 4.

Also since im here i was also wondering my soil has been moist on the rest of my plants since i transplanted them a week ago i haven't been giving them nothing just wait for soil to dry. I was told that the soil mix im using holds moisture not water its a peat base mix vermiculite and d. lime. iS THAT NORMAL?

the roots you are seeing may be "seeker" roots. they are looking for the edges of the pot. testing their limits so to speak. they should be ok.

when you first transplant there are no roots in a lot of the new soil. it takes the roots a week or so to fully fill in. before this happens the soil will stay moist longer because there are no roots in it to absorb moisture.

How long do you think i i should wait till watering them when soil is dry? Also the roots growing out pot bottom is fine they are in the water tray (trays are empty)

wait until they start to wilt. it won't hurt them. it will make the roots grow fatter. they will be seeking out water and fill the pot. the less you water the more roots you get in the beginning. i could be wrong but it works for me.


the roots coming out the bottom of the pots should be ok.
