Which sativa strains are suitable for the midwest?

Newbie here, plan on growing for the first time.

I enjoy sativas much more than indicas but am aware that have much longer flowering periods. With that said, which sativa strains would flower by mid October and would pure sativas such as lamb's bread or any of the hazes be out of question? I plan on starting mid-late May.

Those sativas most likely won't make it for you. Some Jack Herer strains are 9 or 10 weeks. Take alook at the Attitude seedbank under sativas. They usually list the flowering time period.

Thanks, I'll take a look at those. When it says outdoor harvest, how is that measured when people are in different regions and plant at different times of the year?

Your growing season depending on weather is May/June- Sept/Oct . I live in the cen. coast area of Cal. and started my grow at the end of May.

You can get both of those in seed form at the Attitude. Don't know where to get seedlings. hope this helps.

The problem you run into is also that not only do they take 10-12 wks flowering, but in my experience start flowering later than indicas. I had two diesel plants that didn't even have a preflower until the first week of Sept. and I picked them in mid November and they still didn't finish. Another downside to the late grow season is one month flowering in November does not equal one month flowering in August. The buds really stalled in those cold November nights. So if you can find one that starts flowering early, that is the one you want.

Hey Givealittle,

Try Power Africa from seedsman (through attitude) Its supposed to be done by the end of September. Durban Poison x Skunk/Haze. Big and powerful according to the seedsman description. I'm trying it this year in mountainous California, we get frosts usually starting mid Oct.

If you try it, pm me and we can compare notes as we go along, that might be fun.

Awesome! Almost seems too good to be true. Now I noticed they only carry feminized seeds. Any downfall to that when it comes to yield, quality, and most importantly the possibility of hermies?

Yield and quality are unaffected. From what I've read, there is a slightly higher chance of a hermaphrodite; depends on the breeders methods and the way you take care of them for the first 3 to 4 weeks. Get the Ph right and be consistent and we'll be fine. Hope that Power Africa lives up to it's description.

Peace,
