Early signs of male plants?

Hi gang,

Been checking out a good deal of info here and others post about sexing and having males.... In all the photos I've seen here and other places, I have not seen any good photos of the very early stages.

I have two plants that are the same age, one has been slower in growth then the other one. The other one has already shown female hairs on day 3 of light change and the slower one has not shown any hairs. I took these photos of the slower one tonight and was wondering if more experienced growers think these look like early stages of male signs? Or could still be to early to tell?

Your thoughts.

Thank you for the reply, I noticed on the female one it has the same little bump (kind of) but female hairs coming out and only can been seen where the hairs are.... This other plant I think is going to be male because those little bumps I photoed are in all nodes areas but no hairs. Sucks to think of having to kill off a plant.... At least I cloned the right one! (provided they root and grow) As of today (after I bumped thread) I went to check on the babies, and those bumps are now bigger then last night when I took the photos. I also changed my lights from 14 -10 to 12-12 to start in the morning so in a few days time we see better...

All you other new guys & gals growing for the first time might want to look at the photos so you know what to look for in early stages.

If the pic was clearer I would be more positive but that is were your plant is going to start sprouting its flowers.

This photo maybe a better and more clear image, there also bigger now, a few days older. Pretty sure it's male:sad:

Probably so. But give it some time. Even if those are sacs, they aren't going to open for quite awhile.

plus you possibly have a plant to practice various techniques on even if it does turn out male.
it'll take a bit for those to cause any trouble

it may be male, but i cant give you a definite answer based on the pics ive seen. it sort of looks like a pod on a stem developing, but i would not personally consider the evidence strong enough to say male for sure. i wouldnt cut it yet if it was my plant. one thing i just noticed is that in the very latest pic one of the growths looks more tear drop shaped than just a rounded pod on a stem that males will make. i wouldnt get your hopes up too high, but i wouldnt be depressed about it, even if it is a male its not that bad, you got a 50/50 ratio if you only did 2 plants, ive seen guys on here do 8-10 plants and get one or 2 females. that is something to be depressed over, lol. Just be happy you didnt get 2 males.

Thanks for the follow up replies ye all. Not depressed, just checking it all out and wondering if I'm able to understand my research, there is a lot to take in. And yes happy with the 50/50 results should it go male. I took two clones from the female, so there is hope those will root, lots of firsts in this camp, just having fun watching them grow and trying to learn.

It's great finding this forum so much to read and getting feed back from everyone is great, thanks!

Ok well it's been two more days now, and those little things are bigger now, with three bumps... sure look like balls to me! Anyone else agree? It's taking up valuable room in the flower area, sure I hate to waste a pretty looking plant, but can't keep it around if it's going to ruin my female, don't need seeds that bad, if it was not so cold I would put it outside some place just for the hell of it.

Yeah looks like males to me. Give it a few more days to make sure though. You'll have a generous buffer in-between the time you can tell that they are male for sure to when they actually release pollen. If no shooting white hairs show up....TIMBERRRRRRRRR. :-P

I've found 5 in my grow room so far, but I planted extra to compensate for this. I'm going into week 5 and they are unmistakable. You won't need to post pics and ask what they are when they truly manifest themselves, at least, I didn't have to... :hump:

Yea I kind of guessed that... When the little bumps first showed up the first thing I thought was male. I was a little surprised by some of the replies of those who couldn't say for sure, yet I can understand many here wouldn't want to dish out bad advice. The way I see it is, he is hogging up the light that could be 100% on my girl, no reason to grow a boy in my flower room. However maybe I should keep it and then in the dark do a stealth operation down to the courthouse/copshop and transplant that baby in the landscaping.....

if its taking out room you could use for other plants get it out of there, i highly doubt it is female after this amount of time, by now it should of spit out some pistils even if it was a deformed female caylx. if i had known it was taking up space you really need i probably would of advised it a little sooner.

It does appear to be working on making balls YRT...but give it some time to be sure. You don't have to worry about it messing up your girl for a little bit yet. Have you thought about growing it out long enough to collect some pollen? That would allow you to dab a few isolated buds and make yourself some spare seeds to keep your grow on... I did a ghetto cardboard box 'boys room' in my basement (three floors away from the girls LOL) to safely grow out the strongest boys until I could collect pollen. I was able to get 27 seeds from my AK48 by messing with just one bud! I plan to make a nice crossbreed from two of my best strains.
