50 years ago, who do you think those nice people were? Jobless americans living in the ghetto? I'd say more like middle class. And middle class in this country is going to shit. 50 years ago you could make an honest living working in the auto industry. It's not the common ameican fault that we don't produce our own shit anymore. Population is incresing, jobs are disappearing, and people are living in squaller. If welfare pays as much as a job at mcdonalds, and you don't have to get punched in the face doing an already humuliating job, it makes sense that people are exploiting it. Minumum wage is a joke, and welfare probably pays better. As good a that sounds. I have found that in all my travels, people are nice why? because they want you to buy what they have or want something in return. Not to say that nice people don't exist, but, sad to say, people generally are more focused on what they can gain and it is the rare occasion to find an honest, trustworthy person that genuinely wants to help you. 50 years ago, it was rare to hear of a serial killer or a house getting robbed or getting jacked on the street. People are getting worse and worse statistically speaking. I personally keep to myself anymore and am sketchy on meeting new people and it sucks to be that way because I loved being social. But after being robbed multiple times living in the ghetto, being punched cuz i screwed up a guys order when i worked for mcdonalds (first job), Sued because someone tripped on my porch and an exwife after every cent i try to make for myself etc etc ... I just have given up on people and keep to myself and my small band of friends and family.
If the standards of living were what they once were, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
