I hear what you are saying. Its not like they are putting dye into it or something crazy though. What it does is just enhance any strain that has any purple tendency at all. I have some strains that would turn just a tiny hugh of purple without it but with it it is more prnounced. Not super purple but just a bit more purple. Purple strains turn out a shade more purple and so on. Not drastic. The Trich production is dramatic on the plants however and that is the only reason I even use the stuff.

I concur, Purple Maxx is actually derived from river eels, not chemicals. I will second the notion that it increases trichome production, I don't know how it does it, but it does. It will FRY everything if you aren't careful. Supposedly it was discovered by accident (that's what it says on the bottle), I imagine some bush hippy grower using dead river eels to fertilize his outdoor plots like the Indians used to, and getting a pleasant surprise at harvest time.

Week 6-7 I am 1100 PPM and use it full along with 2 ML of Gravity and 2 Teaspoons of MOAB per gal which is high. Lots of strains and they all love it.

not sure how a study only using 2 plants proves anything, even if they are the same strain,same height......but mkay... it works thats fine

as we all know plants in nature love being pumped full of random chemicals

If you have less plant height, you can put your light closer to your budsites Without having to penetrate though 6 ft of branchy growth. If givin the right nutrients in bloom, This will result more light on your plant and budsites.

Same strain from the same mother switched at the same height/size. Also I showed about 6 plants total.I had an entire tray with 12 strains on it all respond the same. I also stated I got the same results with many strains. Yeah and in nature you sure as shit wont ever yield 5+ lbs in a 4X8 space and if you did it would not be consistantly that high. What do you think everyone in the forum does ? We are all giving these plants our own little growing enviroment, not tossing seeds off our balcony hoping for some great natural plants. =)

Use it on a strain that gets too stetchy like many sativas do. Then you can grow it right next to your indicas with the same even veg time. It has a valid role with indoor growing. I'll use it when I need it. FYI it also forces your plants into bloom and cuts 1-2 weeks off your grow. Like anything time and place is everything.

Edit, make that 2 Teaspoons of MOAB .... Yeah its a lot I know but my plants really like it. I think I am going to ramp it up a little more slowly in the future. Maybe 1000 PPM week 1 1100 wk 2 and go to max of 1400 ppm week 4. Will see if it makes any difference. I flush for a solid 7 days with 100 gallons of pure filtered water. Plants always come out clean and are very smooth no chemical taste at all. One of the things I love about hydro, easy to flush all the crap out. I dont miss my 5 years of soil grows at all anymore ...

It's just another tool to have in the grow. I always have a $20 bottle on the nute shelf. My helper wanted to bloom a litltle sativa for his head stash. We hit it with the gravity to keep her in line with the rest of the grow.

When I think of "snake oil", I think of something worthless that does not work as advertised. If there's one thing that every single person who has used Bushmaster will tell you, it's that it works just like it says it will. Whether or not you want to use it is up to you.

What, you don't support the oil companies lol? I have grown pure sativas indoors that would make the best veteran growers faint. I have trained sativas and grown them successfully indoors by topping at will..... and that included topping during flowering. Those pure sativas were stuff like TFD's Original Haze, Zamal sativa (straight from Christopher of La Reunion, a french breeder who was shocked to find out I was growing his stuff indoors), Dalat Vietnamese (seeds sourced directly from the Dalat highlands of Vietnam) and Mexican sativa. Of course some of the best laid plans don't work. For instance, here is a shot of a Dalat Viet which I let grow outside of the garden's footprint, had no choice, ran out of headroom. It was just plain uncontrollable and took forever to bring to a flowering response, I'm talking months. Want a good laugh and a REAL challenge, look at this hehe! On the right is a C99 X Dalat cross that my bud and I did, left outside of the lamp footprint. I mailed him pollen from a choice first generation C99 and he did the dirty deed with his Vietnam ladies. Needless to say, the C99 influence did not show. As an aside, so much for the paradigm that sativa requires super amounts of light LOL.



Speaking of 'gravity', yield was excellent using HPS and Wallymart foods ("because they work"), so much so that I had to support the massive colas with chains from above. This shot is about 6 months from seed germination, not yet ready to harvest. Needless to say, leaf retention was a challenge for such an old indoor plant in a 3 gallon pot.

How this for long internodes. I topped this Dalat at least once maybe more. This is about 2 months post germ, 12/12, no flowering response. A PGR would have been great.

If I wanted to and had the time, I could breed some world class sativa. I still have alot of Dalat, some TFD's O. Haze beans, Zamal and Mexican sativa. They are safe and sound....have been kept in dark cold conditions.

Sativas are a real challenge, and never produce chunky buds, they are always airy with very little "crystals". It's what's in those trichomes that counts - sets apart the men from the boyz lol. Zamal was as challenging except it did flower much quicker than the Dalat. The Dalat flowers upon reaching a certain age, vegetative maturity, as opposed to being driven by phytochrome levels. I'll share a really cool email directly from the breeder who lives on a volcanic mountain on La Reunion. It's thought that zamal was originally brought over from Africa to Madagascar and then to La Reunion where French is the native tongue. This is the first correspondence from the breeder, Chris:

I'll send you 1 picture of Zamal plant; (it's a plant on the left with color lights). It was 4 months old, but I cut him 2 months later. on the picture you can see only the half of the plant. I 'm very surprise because it's the first time I can see Zamal indoor and I wonder if Zamal is a good plant for indoor. I live in Réunion island and the average temperature in the year is 26̊; we can breed outdoor all the year; I never plant indoor.

Few precisions about Zamal (not Zamaal): This sativa (100%) was imported from Madagascar 200 years ago with slaves. Her degree of THC is between 15 and 30% (there are few qualities),
she is very powerfull and she unsticked the head of many old smokers. She has a good ratio (naturely): 9 females for 1 male; Her florewing begins between 8 and 12 weeks; but in winter (24̊ the day, 18̊ the night) it's not uncommon to cut the plant after 7 or 8 months; here few growers wait 1 year and sometimes more. I smile when you are afraid by 17 weeks of grow; sure it's expensive, but may be it's early to cut her. How many hours she is under the ligths by day? Sure it's a long time to grow in comparison with indica, but it's difficult to comparate this 2 plants (florewing, heigt, yield...)

Harvest depend of the heigt,but usually she is between 800 grs and 1 kg (dry) for average heigt of 3 meters, some plants can exceed 4 or 5 meters, with trunk of 15 cm of diameter! (I have a friend, he installed a swing on his plant)

Zamal is strongest than Durban poison or Malawi gold and more than many indica. She has not a strong odor (except when you smoke) usually her odor is carot-mangoo but depend the quality, her odor is less than indica. Buds are smallers than indica buds but biggers than your production. Outdoor she needs not too much water and she can grow in altitude (1500m). Usually she lives in volcanic earth and in fact she can grow in acid earth (PH: 5,6) In general she is resistant but she is kept fungus and ant. At all she needs a good sun.

But like I said, I haven't indoor experience and I wonder if Zamal indoor gives you the same quality than outdoor. If you want accelerate florewing, mix Zamal with indica; ex: Afghani special (male) x Zamal=florewing in 6 weeks.

I dont think I have any 100% Sativas. Casey Jones I am running indoors and outdoor last year can get big thick colas . Train Wreck X Sour Diesel. I was surprised that outdoors it got much larger/longer buds for the plant size. I know of course buds are larger outdoors but it just grew totally differently outdoors then indoors unlike every other strain I have done outside. Looked more like indica buds to me. Also a VERY frosty strain. Indoors the buds get rock hard when I use Gravity and a little fluffy without it. Outdoors were in between and I used some Gravity but not like indoors.

To whoever took over UB account, good info and interesting. PGRs definetly have their place in a grow room if not overdone. I'll only use them if needed or maybe on a few strains that get too lanky.


Outdoor Casey Jones last year in a 45 gal pot. Only about 5-6 weeks into bloom. Needed a lot more support then it received , would have done even better. Hade a bamboo cage around it and lots of string but needs more obviously. I was more focussed on some ther plants I had going at the time in 100 gal pots.

Shows the trichs a little better. Indoors they get MUCH frostier.
