hey guys, much appreciated in advance, any help with this will gain a +rep no problem....

i have a 3ft wide by 2ft deep by about 5ft high cabinet i have 4 plants in, FF soil grow, 400 watt hps. good ventilation in and out. my only problem is thatwhen my lights shut off at 8AM (for the 12/12 stage, back on @8PM) my temp and humidity goes from a perfect 45% humidity and 79degrees to about 65% humidity and 65 degrees temp. ive put so much time, effort and a few bucks in this so i dont want anything to go wrong....can i run a heat light that doesnt give off "light" that will affect the growth?just to raise it a couple degrees during light off period on a sperate timer thats the opposite of the other one, ( heat light turns on when the hps turns off?)

i vegged a week longer than the pics u see so im gonna run out of room soon with the plants as it is so i dont wanna buy a dehumidier, any super easy suggestions?...i heard cat litter in a bowl, rice...ive even seen these bags that capture humidity and u throw them away when they are full of water....anyone ever have this problem b4?...grape romulon, skywalker OG, diablo OG, and blue venom....

thanks again guys

I wouldn't worry about the 65 deg when the lights are out. It gets cool at night in nature as well. What is the humidity in the garage itself? Do you run the fan that cools the lamp when the lamp is off? How does the garage air enter the box?

neither temp or humidity are that bad and as the weather gets warmer,so should your room. if you want, a heating pad(for plants, not 1 for your back) under the plants might help keep the soil warm or a small electric heater.

Is the light vented in or out of the garage? By venting it back into the garage you will raise the ambient humidty, although you might be having to have to to keep the ambient temps up in the room. I have read that a drop in temp is a good thing in the dark period of the flower cycle as this immitates nature. I would have to look up the exact temp but want to say it is somewhere around a 7 to 10 degree difference.
Get ready here comes summer...which in my area means excess heat!

hey man thanks to all 3 replies..u all got +rep....., ill try to answer all ur questions at once...i purchased the 400 watt hps 120 dollar set up via htg supply, i got it with the hood that comes with it, which doesnt have any way of putting glass on the bottom so i measured the hood and purchased a piece of glass and secured it to the bottom thuis making it an enclosed hood, then i drilled 2- 2" holes in the side and ran a 2"pre-heater ducting for a car (smaller black ducting) i got from autozone to one of the 2 holes, the other holes stays open so it can act as a fresh air in to the "hood" ....so there is 2 small pc fans down low on the bottom right of the cabinet sucking in fresh air at all times(total of 160 cfm for both fans intake)...the cab. is approx. 30 cubic feet, then on the upper left of the cabinet i have 2 more small pc fans, the one fan u see pulling exhaust out of the cabinet (with the 3 inch silver ducting if u look close enough) is 110 cfm by itself sucking out the cabinet used air, then the other pc fan is like 85 cfm but that one is exclusively sucking out hot air from the hood.... my garage is quite large and a door stays open all day for my dog to come in and out, so its basically fresh air and i live in so cal so the humidity outside the cab., outside the home, and everywhere is relatively normal seeing as how i live rather inland...the humidity in the cab is all a product of the plants transpiring and the soil in my opinion...

anyways, i purchased some "damp rid" from home depot today, its some silica crystals enclosed in a bag that suck humidity out and fills with water as it does so, the water(humidity) in the bag stays in there sealed and when u see it full u throw it away...ive seen them sold at the hydro store so i know it wont harm the plants. im thinking of just running that for the humidity problem and kinda just bein ok with the temp drop since u guys said nature drops at night anyways, what do you guys think????

I would see how that damp rid works. If it gets you down to where you want to be end of story, if not I would try a larger exhaust fan or another one.

Ive tryed all those cheap products to deal with humidity but they just cost money and never really have a noticable impact.... If your cab was inside your home instead of the garad.your humidity would probably be better.......I have two grows one inside and one unattached to house..... The one inside allways has a lower humidity...Outside its requires a/c, heaters, dehumidifiers, alot more money.

You got a 400w in a 5' high cab, Its time to step up and get a proper fan for your HID light.....Ditch those Pc fans and get One 4"inline fan and do it right..You wont need any intake fans or the upper pc fans just one 4" fan and your done can even keep your ghetto growers aircooled hood if you want....
Close the holes where your old exhaust pc fans where and make a new 4" hole where ever you want to make your new exhaust outlet..Id put the fan outside the box since your box is small. If you cut the outlet hole on the ceiling of the cab you could just lay the fan on its side on the roof of the box..
Then you would take your lower pc inlet fans out and you will now have the holes for your passive intake(just remove fans and you have passive intake holes)....Then id put some of those flat square hepa filters over the bottom intake holes from the outside....They come in all sizes from small to big.....Id also extend my exhaust with ducting from the back side of the fan so it dosent exhaust back into the garadge plus it will help with noise.....With out that you are just recycling the same air

Oh about your heat light question at night......I use to Use a reptial ceramic heat emitter...From petco .....Its just a bulb made out of ceramic theres no light just heat, I use to use 3 150w ones to heat the room at night but thats a poor way to use so many watts and not have a noticable effect...But they are an option just to let you know.....Your cab is small so it might help......Mine is 4x4x8

looks like you've got lot of light leak in your cab. That can cause Herms... And i think you'd be fine with heating mat under plants to keep your roots from getting too cool. by the way higher humidity levels can increase your female to male ratio, i doubt its a big percent change in your chances but just something i picked up while thumbing thru the grow bible the other day
