How much airflow needed for a 400w

How much airflow is needed to cool a 400w HPS/MH bulb..

the more air the cooler it stays. I use a 250cfm bathroom fan and push the air. have a 4" in line booster fan at the end of the run. I can run the light 8" off the plants. My setup is diy.

Awesome... Okay then I'll aim for around 300CFM then... Maybe more I wonder how much it'll sent me back..

I got the bath fan at a used place for 20.00 and the in line at home depot for I think around 20.00. If I replaced with the one I had it was around 300.00.

You could get a 8 inch booster fan and reduce it for like 30 bucks just gota put a cord on it.

I agree. I have a "500 cfm booster fan" and it doesn't blow nearly as well as my 520ish cfm s&p td200. The booster fans are more for free flowing air not ventilation.

8 inch booster does 275 cfm . It boosts up to 550 cfm when the air is allready moving.

Woah, just blown my mind... How should the fan be in front of it? How much do they cost?

I use a 6 inch CanFan (279 cfm's) that sits outside and on top of my tent, venting STRAIGHT (no bends) up into the attic via 3 feet of RIGID ducting wrapped in flective insulated pipe wrap.
Heat still permeates through our ducting, which causes temps to be warmer in the grow room.
Using an infrared thermometer, my ducting was giving off 93F heat !!
Now it reads a constant 78F.
The human skin/body radiates about 88F.

My tent is 32" x 32" x 63".
I use passive intake with 2 open flaps on the bottom.
I use a 400w Hortilux in a Sun System Yield Master II.
I removed the glass lens, therefore I DO NOT air cool my hood/light.
I have a 7 inch clip on fan blowing on the bulb.
My ambient temps in the tent are 79F - 82F on the regular.

I think when ppl talk about venting thier grow spaces they seem to neglect to leave out important information like ambient temps, even rough geological location makes a difference on what you can get away with. I use the same hood as Flo Grow but I use the air cooling with a 6" in Vortex rated at 450 CFM on a C.A.P. day/night variable speed controller. When the light is on it ramps up and runs at a fraction of its maxium capacity. Just enough to give me neg. pressure in both cabinets with passive intakes. My ambient temps stay at 69 degrees even with me venting back into the same room, but it is underground so that makes a huge difference. I used to have a formula for how much the ambient temp would rise depending on fan CFM and light wattage I'll see if I can dig it up.

Usually its about 70 in the room but its getting colder and colder now...
I drops down quite low during the nights so I'll run my lamps and night to keep the plants warm...
