first grow and she was cut down 2 days ago. been hang drying for 2 days now. First of all the buds feel dry "crispy" on the outside is it ready for curing? Also whats up with the grass/hay smell that im getting from my buds? I have seen this problem on here many times and have noticed there was a big debate on what causes this smell. has anybody had the grass/hay smell and ended up with dank smelling shit? If so what was your way of doing so?

thats the chlorophyll what youre smelling. Jar them up. And what i do to increase the smell of the bud, is i grab a bud, and kind of roll the bud with my fingers and the smell just comes right out.

iv heard that the stems can cause more of a hay grassy smell. try cutting the buds of the stems then jar them up. they should start smellng nice after a gd cure.

It is not the stems causing that smell, it is chlorophyll; the same stuff you smell after cutting the grass. I like to leave my stems on for the first couple of days curing, simply to even out the cure.

Unless you live on the sun, 2 days ain't enough dry time. Between when you cut it down and when it's ready, it'll go thru what we call the "gassy" stage around here at my place. That's when the water is evaporating and the chlorophyll and starches (?) in there are undergoing their chemical change, as the water molecules disappear into the air. That's the weird hay smell. DO NOT JAR THOSE NUGS AFTER 2 DAYS OF DRYING.

OK, so the outside feels kinda crispy, and you feel they might be done. Now is when it's most important to resist the urge, and leave em the hell alone for a few more days. In the dryest place I've ever lived, it took 5 days minimum. When most of the stems snap, it's time to start curing. You might think they're bone dry, but think again. I'll bet after you jar or bin them for a few hours, you'll find them moister than you felt they were when you put em in a container.

Putting ganja into a container before this point is a sure way to seal in that barnyard flavor, and there's no turning back. Patience, friend!

Bad advice.... Once the stems snap, you are past the curing stage and your bud is too dry, with starches and chlorophyll trapped inside... I NEVER go more than 3 days without jarring. My bud is dank and sweet. If you leave yours out for 5 days "minimum" or more, you are completely drying it out and will never reach the buds full potential.
