The real name of that rock is Tse Bit'a'i which means Winged Rock. To white folks it's known as Shiprock. The water in the rivers is fine. The name of the area where I live is called Totah which means, Three Rivers. The Animas, San Juan, and La Plata rivers converge here. So we have plenty of water. I'd stay away from stagnant pools. They carry dangerous bacteria or contain alkali. We have a lot of cougars here. Not long ago I was out for a walk with my mom and we saw a cougar cross the road from our property and dart down to the river. It was huge. We have the occasional bobcat and even chased off a bear that was trying to get into our chicken coop.I
