THIS WILL HAPPEN..TIME TO ORGANIZE
Friday, 18 March 2011 09:39 Author: Perry Parks
Another week with no bill..and I read the comments about "it's too late, it's the wrong year, we don't have support...etc". So, to again refute the naysayers, I traveled to Raleigh where Ben Scales and I met with Kelly Alexander to see where we are at. While we were there, Kelly emailed the bill drafting department and almost immediately, he received a call from the clerk working to draft the bill.

She told us that "today is medical marijuana day"! She will be working "only" on this bill. When asked how much longer, we were told that "We will have a new bill and new bill number NLT (no later than) March 24th..NEXT THURSDAY.After the discussion, I am confident that this will happen. After that, the real work begins, calling, calling, calling and writing letters of support to any newspaper that will print it.

At the same time, having a bill is not having a LAW. I had met earlier in the day with Amy Hobbs in Speaker Tillis' office. We had a very frank discussion about the prospects for passing this. What she told me was "it is absolutely possible and depended solely on our ability to lobby at the grass roots level". As a matter of fact, she informed me that if we had the support of those who have committed so far, the Speaker will not oppose us. In other words, this is a "REAL POSSIBILITY". It depends, she said, on how well we lobby and how vocal the support of those pushing the bill are.

Ben and I met with several legislators. We had a scheduled meeting with Marilyn Avila and she did not dispute the medical evidence. She admitted that the medical evidence continues to accumulate and she would read the info I left her. She admitted to me that she suffers much pain from getting older. Sadly, she seemed to revel in the fact that she "suffered it without help from narcotics". That is fine with me...just don't expect me to have the same desire to suffer with you!

I am departing for Washington shortly for the anniversary march to protest the war in Iraq. Also hope to find an audience with the troops to let them know about the ability of this plant to help their suffering.I hope to speak to the group sometime during the day tomorrow.

Keep the faith. We are struggling with cash to pay phone bills and other expenses but we may have a life line for a donation. Tonight, on "ustream TV", if you search for "common sense cannabis conversation" with Paul Stanford, they should be discussing a meeting with Jean and I. It is a call in show, so listen in and plug our organization. They may be willing to help us in our cause. This is a weekly show and Paul has a company that markets MM in several states where it is legal. He would like to see our state follow suit.

Please take time to comment on this article. I appreciate all the well wishes but that is not the main reason for the comments. The main reason is to gauge how well the website if attracting visitors and eventually, it will become a focal point for our battle. We must find a way to channel the power of the internet for our cause. All ideas are welcomed, as is feedback on our efforts. If we could channel all the interested parties into a cohesive "single voice calling out from the wilderness, it will be a loud voice". LET US UNITE FOR THE CAUSE"

Thanks for everyones help. Working together, we WILL CHANGE THIS LAW.

Im so excited at the possibility, not to mention NC could definately use the increase of jobs and taxable money moving. especially at the small business level. I wonder if it would be introduced as "non profit" like cali or "for profit" like colorado. either way medical patients will be able to medicate without criminal issues, AWESOME!

Cheers! And yes we need jobs bad! Especially for people like myself, construction is very slow... I am going to try to get my license to grow medicinal marijuana. Possibly, become a source for patients! As soon as the we are legalized I will take every penny I have for this.

And, thank you for your support! I support it in every fashion as well.

I'm also a member of NCCPN and this is wonderful news. I was just watching the Dr. Oz Medical Marijuana episode a couple of days ago. Very informative and interesting to see the views of both sides of the fight. Many NORML representatives were on the show, maybe you can find it somewhere on the internet.

Anyways, everyone make some phone calls, write some letters, and be vocal! I believe thats where we failed in 2010 there were few voices VS many. The jobs point was a very good one, many people are seeking employment and that would be a hell of a source.

Off to Raleigh early to try and get the speaker before he starts his day. We have a bill and hopefully it will be introduced this morning some time.

Anyone from Alexander or Catawba couties represented by Rep Mark Hollo, please get on the phone and try and encourage him to sponsor. His email is [email protected]. He is a Physician's Assistant and strong Republican. His support could bring 3 other Republicans on board. Think of anyone you know who may be in his district and get them to contact him.

Constituents who live in his district have the best chance.

EVERYONE..go to

http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/

In the left column, there is a link for sending comments to the legislature about bills and laws that need changing. It is called the "Joint" Regulatory Reform Committee...ha, ha..no pun intended.

Also on the same site, If you click on the house link, it has all members listed; click on the member and you have his info.

Yesterday at Guilford Tech, this committee met to hear citizens. We thought it was at 6 PM. It actually was at 1-2 PM, so if you planned to go and missed it "you can put that in your comments and that you want to see cannabis available for PATIENTS. If you know a veteran..AND I BELIEVE YOU ALL KNOW ME AND A FEW OTHERS, write your letters and tell them about my inability to use this medicine. Tell them that it is a disgrace that your veterans have given much and all we ask is a chance to QUIT the narcotics.

This is the chance. Everyone needs to get one new member to signup on nccpn.org and make a difference.

Will report tonight on today..PRAY

IM IN NC!!! i swear if its passed im jumpin on a dispenary job the first day lol
Ya, bro I hear that for sure! And thats the only way to get paid for it as well, because you can't actually own a dispensary. It is actually a non profit organization... so the founders don't get paid for their services. Instead all the profits go back into the company and the success of the company, like employee's, and equipment and all that good stuff!

Just so you know many nonprofit company's make plenty of money. If you know how to set up holding companies it's very easy. There are more corporate loop holes in the law books than anything else. Also, the people on the board are aloud to set salaries for there services, they do get paid.

Well, cheers to that for sure! Maybe we should talk a little more about these loop holes.. lol

I'm sorry if I threw out bad info, I will research this much more now! But seriously, about these loop holes!

Get a lawyer that specializes in Non-Profit businesses, it's well worth it. He can tell you exactly what to do and in many cases they can set up everything you need for you. While you can't report profit from a non-profit company you can make investments with that money. There is no law that says you have to see a return(wink wink), it's just seen as a bad investment or you could just invest your money in another legitimate company you create and profit off of that.

You should take time to read the Bill, I think you are mistaken at least the way the NC Bill is written. You will pay a non refundable licensing fee, additional tax on profit, and sales tax.
