I Couldn't Clone My Way Out of a Bag!

Ok so my fourth at cloning has begun.
I was just wondering, is it normal for clones to droop at a 90 degree angle for a while?
If not how do I get them to straighten out again?

I'm using two small 1/2 gallon poly tubs, same type, one on top of the other (like subcool). With a 40 watt 2x 2ft floro tubes over top (like subcool). Misting every few hours. On a heat mat set to very low, though as I type this I'm realizing that Vegas is getting warmer now and that I probably don't need the heating mat during the day. I'm taking it off during the day. I'm at like hour 7 of day 1.

PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I'M DOING WRONG!!

No mat and stop misting, try this it's 100% for me in a variety of mediums.
Most important to jut leave them alone once in the dome, they do not like being messed with.
This is an easy way to do some cuts.First a healthy plant in veg with some good branching, side and top views.
I use an old cutting board,a rusty razor, sharp fine pointed scissors and roottech gel.
You don't need any hormones at all to take cuts successfully but it speeds up the process and the plants are less beat up by the time they root.
How the branch looks removed with nodes attached and stripped off,I just pinch them off be careful not to kink the stem.......kinking is bad.
Stick in gel let sit for 30 seconds or so.
In this case I'm using peat pellets but it'll work in just about anything that will keep the cut from drying out while it's rooting.
Soak the pellets overnight or they'll suck the moisture outta the cuts with bad results.
Poke hole in pellet, stick cut all the way down again careful not to kink the stem.
Form pellet around stem,gently.......then dunk in water to replace what ya squeezed out by forming then put in a dome.I'm using a cake box, they come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes plus ya getta cake.......fucking A.
In this case they're about 12"s under a 42 watt cfl, just leave'em alone they don't like being messed with.
Roots take anywhere from 5 to 15 days depending on plant and temp,I will take some pics and explain how I quick harden them off and pot'em when these root.
Now the donor plant provided 6 cuts and has 4 main branches, ready to be up-potted and flowered tomorrow.

Thanks. Now that looks like it's gonna work. MINE looked beautiful too when I first planted them, and some still do. Just that they always wilt. They don't die because of the wilt, but they always wilt.
So no more misting huh? Ok
And I took the mat off.
And I probably am babying them to death, so I'm leaving them alone too.

Ok so it's been about 14 hours since I planted the clones. They're still a little wiltie, but the leaves still look healthy and the stem are still stiff. I'm gonna go to sleep soon. Every time I wake up on day two the plants are dry and dead. I generally sleep for 8 hours, is there anything I should do to them so they survive the night? Should I turn the light off or leave it on all night?

Well I dont know what happened but I could on;y sleep for 6 hours tonight. Oh well. I turned the lights off on the clones last night for about 3-4 hours and they're fine. They are doing surprisingly good. One is still leaning but not as much. The stems are still stiff and foliage look health. Damn I wish I had a fucking camera. If the clones make it through today they will have lived longer than all my other attempts.

Ok. It's the end of day 2 and things are looking up. The stems are stiff and the leaves are still healthy looking. As far as I can tell the stem hasn't rotted either but there's really no way for me to know that. My plan is to take four more clones the coming monday, give them 4 days to recover and then begin the first day of flowering Saturday.

I'm sure no one cares anymore, but I'm gonna document my results anyways.

I look forward to yer results.
The absolute hardest thing to learn about cuts is patience, they take their own time and fussing with them is the worst thing to do.
As long as the humidity is high and the light is 24 and gentle they will root even without hormones if yer just patient enough.

shouldn't you wait about two weeks before going into flower so the clones recover and have a chance to build a root system

So finally today after waking up and checking on the cuttings I saw roots growing out of the white widow x big bud cut. The weird thing is they were groing out of the top of the soil line. Like not out of the plug, but out of the stem, right above the plug "soil" line. I don't understand it but I'm happy to see any sign of life at all. The whole time I'm waiting for roots, the cuttings look fine and green and barely droop or anything yet I'm still worrying about how they're doing. I learned that as long as they're not dead, to not give up on them. Nothing else is showing signs yet except for two yelowing & dying leaves on two separate plants. Otherwise they're still trucking along. I still don't have a camera but I followed this, https://www.rollitup.org/subcools-old-school-organics/50073-cloning-subcool-redundant-explanation-pictures.html , exactly except I used a heat mat, and clonex instead of whatever he uses, and I have my plugs in a mold instead of turning them upside down (I tried the upside-down method and it didn't work for me).

Today, two more cutting are showing signs of roots, YAY! yahoo.gif
So three out of twelve so far are showing signs of life. that ain't bad I guess for a first serious try (by first I mean first grow cycle, this is actually the forth try before I got ANY positive results). So fuck if those live, that's three plants that will be ready to go outside soon. I will be able to grow some dank outside for a change rather than the usual bagseed shwag. Hopefully with more time, some of the other cuts will root aswell. I don't consider myself out of the woods with these cutting yet either considering the weird way the roots are growing out of the stem. I think if worse comes to worse and the roots wont grow down into the rapid rooter, I'll buy some of those 5" paper jiffy pots and transplant them into some seed starter soil and pray to God I don't hurt them...
But I'm gonna hold out till monday and see if the roots make a turn for the plugs in search of water. Crazy....

Just plant'em.
The little roots are only 1/4 - 1/2 inch long and most of them are shorter. And overall there's not that many. I did have to do some surgery just now though. Turns out I was right about the roots not being able to grow out of the hardened scraped stem. One of the clones had heaved itself out of a rooter hole and was almost falling out of it. When I pulled it to fix it, all the little roots had grown above the part of the stem I scraped. I think either I scraped the stem to deep or that technique was meant for another form of cloning like aeroponics or something. Anyway, I ripped open the plug halfway, hollowed out a little hole in the middle so I wouldn't break or traumatize the roots too much, and put it back in the propagator. Hopefully it will live. The other ones seem to be better rooter in the plugs but we'll see.

Scraping them is not a good idea imo.
Too deep is way bad as you are seeing, you can only scrape the very outer layer if ya want it to work.
I'd def plant them asap, they got roots and are all ready looking for food.
The good news is ya got it down and have achieved success.

That's true. I do feel like I achieved some sort of success. I guess the main lesson to learn is that when it comes to cloning, K.I.S.Stoner and patience. The tutorials are probably ALL right. I think if I would've thrown a cut in a glass of water and waited long enough, it would have rooted. But I know a lot of people are still having trouble cloning (not saying I'm a pro, but I've had some success , which is more than some people get around here) so I'm not gonna gloat anymore.

Well, today is day 9 for clone set #1 and day 6 for clone batch #2. After covering the tops of the strangely rooted cuttings, there hasn't been much to share. I assume the roots are healthy and growing into the medium properly now because they're still alive and green and not droopy, but Id really k. I haven't misted the cuts since day 3 but they're still in the propagator and they seem to be doing fine. Leaves are shown obvious signs of nutrient def. Yellow with green spots, weird, but still healthy looking. I'm kind of worried that because of the styrofoam mold holding the plugs upright is also stopping the roots from growing out of the side of them. I think they they would just grow downward but I don't really know.

I know this is kinda pointless without pics and I'm sorry about that.
