Hey MI med community I have a chance to get my own patient I.D. but I am yet unsure of the time and work that must be done medically to ensure my time and money is not wasted and that I get it done right the first time.

My details -

I went in about 6 weeks ago complaining of constant back pain - I stated it has been hurting constant for years.

I am almost done with physical therapy and my spine and hips are outta wack. I will now have stamped paper work that it is indeed hurting and I show the reasoning for my back to be in pain.

My question is to the knowing is what is the definition medically for cronic pain? I have looked it up and I hear all kinds of other opinions?

I will be going to one of them pot docs for this preferably DR BOB out of an allendale office " used him for current patient". So when I see the DR. what do I need in terms of cronic pain to get his approval or any Dr.s for that matter?

I can make this drag out as long as it takes. Heck I can even make claims of nausea for the pills I am supposed to take - but never do. If I do I will feel like shit and will have more symptoms. I know of these symptoms and can complain easily enough if I must.

But I just wanna try and get it done with the cronic pain plea if I can because I have already begun that one and am a few days awaw from the lady at the PT office that she did not fix anything and that they are still in the same condition " my hips and spine" - Thanks MI
.

Mine was super easy long history of ankle and foot injuries and arthritis however you spell it...constant pain nad cramping as well as spasms easily qualify with compassionate docotrs. i also have problems taking opiates

Hic, from what I can tell, they're pretty liberal in the "chronic pain" and "nausea" department. I'm eligible now and I only got diagnosed with IBS. Sure, I'm camping in the bathroom with a spastic colon every time I'm stressed, but we're talking piercing cramps that come with an episode and go when it's over, not a constant pain like you're dealing with, yet MY pain is deemed chronic by medical standards. IMHO, you should be fine without having to claim side effects from your pain meds. Remember, most chronic pain sufferers take a veritable cocktail of pills anyway, the med law puts pot right in there with the rest of the cocktail so you can be comfortable and pain free.

Edit: Oh, and another thing, the medical definition of a chronic condition is one that lasts more than two weeks. Acute is less than two weeks. Hope this helps.

hic it all depends on the doctor you go to, if your around flint message me Ill give you a doctor that I know wouldn't turn you down. Its not to far fetched for me to say that there is very few doctors who would turn you down for mmj in your circumstances I think for the most part the only ones that ultimately could deny you or want more records are the big clinics like THCF

deprave that is what I was kinda thinking as well. Thats why wanna go to a pot doc. My real concern about a pot doc is that they are indeed legit and I aint going to get some letter down the road in 5 years telling me my card was snatched do to a bunk DR.

If I am going to pay 100 - 200 dollars I want some sort of quality oriented pot DR. One that lives here with wife and kids and plans on living here until the end. What POT Dr.'s name can ensure me of that? There has gotta be a DR. like that around my area somewhere.

Sure would be nice if a DR. like that that in michigan would join RIU. I tell you what I sure would rather go to a DR. I could talk the shit with here on these forums and then meet up with him in real life. Yup if a DR were to make himself known here... MY MY ,how rich he would become?.

I think you are a bit delusional as to what you are expecting from this situation.

why would wanting a license be delusional for pain? My uncle got one for whiplash? BUt if you are referring to my paranoi about a legit pot doc. well that comes from my love of quality. If I am going to pay $200 bucks I want it to be done right the first time. I see alot of drs that I wonder if they are indeed doing what they are supposed to be doing.

ahh weeds just like my plants and pussy I want a good dr is all. one thats license aint about to get pulled. know what I mean?

Agreed on the quality, hic. I went to a Gastro specialist about two weeks ago because my stomach went berserk, he diagnosed me with IBS and put me on Librax. I started taking the shit on the March 16th, this past Friday I started having mood swings... BAD ones. Tried calling the doc and he was "in procedures" all day and wouldn't be in the office. Now, I'm under no illusions that surgery is a quick thing, been there enough times to know that, myself. But come on, you can't take 5 minutes BETWEEN procedures to return a call to a patient who's having what's listed under the SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS section of the drug you gave him?

Nah, I see where hic's coming from completely. He's got every right to expect a quality doctor's experience, and if you think that's delusional... perhaps you're just too much of a cynic for your own good, weeds. I'm cynical as hell, but even I think that's pushing it just a bit.

The license is only good for one year then you have to get re-certified, so I don't think you should worry about a dr being discredited. Just call one of the many clinics and they will take care of you. I personally went through THC clinic and I believe they wanted 2 records at least 90 days apart just to cover their own asses. Once I had the records 90 days apart it was a breeze and they just pushed me right through the system no hassle at all. Many other clinics do not have as strict of requirements. One of my patients has no medical records because of no insurance (she has verification of hep c from many many years ago - but they won't use those old records, even though it's incurable it wasn't up to THC clinics standards) and got her card through the clinic recommended by weeds247 (I don't remember the name, I just remember he referred us).

And thanks to you guys I am headed in a bit more confident that it won't be a waste of time, going in on my cronic pain issue.

So I guess I really was worried for no reason. Shit if it as easy as all that.. why did I wait so long? So if I get denied do the pot docs keep my money? or do I get my cash back?

I think the chronic pain you are experiencing would more than qualify you for medicinal in Michigan. The voters here decided to leave that determination up to doctors... not the State. So if you can find a doctor willing to provide certification that your suffering is a disorder causing chronic pain, you qualify.

The next step is getting it well documented. You will need a few trips to a regular doctor, who will probably want to do all kinds of expensive work-ups. I hope you have insurance.

The important thing is to document that you have chronic pain. Then ask the doctor you are seeing if they think marijuana might help with the pain. Maybe mention that you smoke recreation-ally and it seems to help. If you are lucky they will give you a recommendation.

If you are unlucky (which you probably will be) get copies of your last three visits (where you mentioned you chronic pain). Fax them to one of the MMJ friendly clinics here in Michigan. You will pay around $150-$$200 for a visit to the clinic to get your recommendation.

Get the forms from the Michigan Department of Community Health, send them $100 and you will get your card in about 90 days. If you start now you could be legal in about 6 months. It takes a bit of an effort here but I think it is well worth it.

After having talked to my gastro specialist last week and learned that it was nurses who didn't bother to call him, I gotta say this... I mentioned the issue of mmj to him and he was sincerely regretful that he could not help me in this regard. He cited his being a gastro specialist as the reason, with my IBS having its origins in anxiety issues rendering him unqualified to say whether "palliative relief" would be an effective treatment. He said I need to speak to a Primary Care Physician, and go from there. Now, I'm not going to just walk into a general MD's office and ask for med pot, but I am scheduled to meet with wayne county mental health people on Friday so I can at least get my problems documented.

Now that I've written a book for you, I'll get to the point... hehehe. Due to the raids on some of the dispensaries, and the status of pot docs as "dubious" at best, I intend to use those avenues as an absolute last resort. When I see my therapist, I'm going to make sure he understands that my use of MJ has helped me greatly over the years. My advice is to talk to the physician who has been overseeing your case and mention mmj to him and gauge his reaction. If he just flat out refuses, or scoffs at the idea... let him know that the money that's been flowing his direction from you might just get cut off if he's not willing to take you seriously. Nothing confrontational... just mention "second opinion". That usually gets them more willing to discuss things with you. They don't like the idea of their patients going to other docs, especially not the ones that advocate against med pot. They tend to be a closed-minded lot who covet their money more than patient care, and make quick diagnoses so they can make their prescription quotas and get their vacations from the pharmaceutical companies. That said, there ARE docs out there who have legitimate reasons for refusing pot... carcinogens in the smoke and whatnot, these guys will generally NOT get offended if you say you want a second opinion, and will happily refer you to someone (sometimes) who will be willing to take your case and help you get the certification.

As for me, at least for now, I plan to stick with established physicians who have an actual ongoing clinical practice. I just feel more comfortable doing it like that, and my recent experience with my gastro specialist has renewed a small bit of the faith I lost a long time ago in the medical community in general.

It is my understanding that they won't bother making an appointment if they aren't going to approve you. That is the way the thc foundation clinic I went to works. I tried a couple times, and they wouldn't even make my appointment until I had all the documentation in order. Then it was simply a formality of getting all my ducks in a row with seeing the dr, filling out paperwork, etc.
