You shouldn't have shown me this seed bank. I'm going to go broke long before I harvest what I have.
LMAO......I'd start off with pretty much everything by Joey first, myself.

wow Flo, I've been busy to follow this since you were having some issues but you really turned shit around and hit out of the park with those last cola shots.

+REP!
LOL...Thanks for coming back through Rev !
Apprciate the comments and +rep too !

Looking like some dank no doubt ! lol

Something else I did different with this grow was to keep the bottoms of the net pots submerged THE ENTIRE GROW.
The plants developed fewer and less thick of those rope/cord-like search roots and grew more feeders roots .
I learned from Heath Robinson that the air space between the bottom of the pots and the nute solution is what helps create those long, thick ass rope-like roots.
I tried it and it worked.
I grew fewer "rope" and more "feeder" roots.
With the pots submerged, the roots didn't have to search as far for food and we able to feed much sooner and more.
I'm sure that contributed to my yield as well.
The stalk was so thick it totally busted the rapid rooter to shreds ! lol l.

Yeah that's what Mr Soul recommended too.
Slow, then wait about 10 minutes. lol

Today is Day 7 Veg. (I start counting from when they spread their condy's)

After attempting a 3rd Neferti bean, for the 2nd time to no avail, I figured it wasn't meant to be so we will only have 2 from this good breeder.
Hopefully 1 of the 2 C99 C2 is a female.
I put my money on #1 !
Which is the ONLY seedling out of them ALL, to have a root in the water !!
AND it's about 8 inches long.......just 1 lone root !!!
So male or female, it's being favored !!

Very nice setup you built there Flo. I'm here a little late but better late then never, right?

I built my first DWC last night and had several questions and saw this link in your sig in another thread. After reading the first 4 pages. My questions have been answered. Just wanted to say hey, nice setup and grow. Keep it green :)

Thanks Doc !
I appreciate the compliments and glad that I gave enough details.
I try to give all details bcuz like you, we/I have those same questions.

Nice to know. I'll be getting one of these soon.

Here's a big question I have. When I change reservoir out do I leave the roots with no liquid no nute solution while i pump all the water out and then refill with correct ph nute solution? How long can they sit in the tubs without any water/nute solution. Also when starting out with seeds or clones I assume I will be watering the root riot cubes from the top. Do I do this with a nute solution or just 5.8ph water? Until the roots reach the solution in the reservoir I mean.

Just so you know, that Milwaukee combo meter I have is a:
DUAL CALIBRATING meter
I can use just 4.01 or 7.01 PH Calibrating solution (also what you store the pen in after each use).
Or for more precise calibration, I can use both !!

Now, when I drain and change my nute solution, I do leave the lid and plants right where they are.
No moving, no stress and no weak yields !
They LOVE the 15+ minutes of clean air all over the root system while I prepare a fresh batch that's equal to what I drained, PH and PPM speaking.
If it takes 30 minutes, they'll be fine.

What I learned from rooter plugs is that if I put it too close to the bottom of the net pot, AND allow the rez water/nute level to cover the bottom of the pot, my seedlings will dampen off from too much moisture like rockwool will do.
So I place my plug in my net pot with about 2 inches of hydroton underneath it first.
If I keep the TOP of the rooter even with the TOP of the net pot, or a little higher, then it's perfect.
I allow my water/nute solution to SKIM and BUBBLE across the very bottom of my pots.
The popping and splashing is enough to keep the hydroton moist so the roots come searching.
I also top feed, AFTER the seedling has stood up and dropped it helmet (seed husk).
I do it 1x - 2x daily.
I dribble a little on the very top of the plug, IF IT'S DRY, but mainly pour over the hydroton AROUND the plug to create dissolved oxygen as it drains thru the rocks.
I do it around the outside of the plug to encourage the roots to spread out for more food, therefore giving me a better root structure that transcends into the rez eventually.
My current seedlings have been in 250 PPM nute solution since day one.
They will stay at that number for at least another 2 weeks, or unless they show signs of wanting more food.
Then I start bumping it up slowly each week, but no more than 50 - 100 PPM's each time.
There's a fine line with nute burn and excess nutes.
A 50 PPM difference can be all it takes and is very noticeable.

Very informative and helpful. I'm planning to submerge the bottom of the net pots from beginning to end after reading your improved results and those mouth watering jars LOL.

Now how long can I keep my seeds/seedlings in plain ph'd water. a week or so? Should I start with a nute solution as I may not have a meter when I start and may be using FoxFarm soil nutes to start(says can use in hydro, believe I will be switching to AN nutes ) How would I go about starting without the meter in the beginning. I will have the meter after the first or second res change

Use your tap water then, and PH it.
PH it before and after it sits for 24hrs, bubbled preferred.
Your city tap has plenty of nutes/minerals for the first 2 weeks easily.

IMHO, go inexpensive, effective and proven with your nutes.................GENERAL HYDROPONICS.
I've used nothing else and you see what I end up with.
I use Pure Blend Pro nutes when I grow soilless in Pro-Mix HP/Coco/Perlite at a 1:1:1 ratio.

Only my strains grown change, everything else has been constant.
Makes it easy to find/see any errors or probs !
The Sig don't lie ! lol

Hey StonerPrincess !
How've you been !?
Nice to have you and DJ as neighbors although we don't see each other. lol
I told DJ to hit me with a PM and a safe addy so I can send ya'll some Gorilla Grape F2's and Magic Monkey's ( Magic Merlin x Gorilla Grape) I made.
No rush, I want ya'll to feel safe and I have dozens ! lol

Thanks for the +rep too !

What general hydroponics nutrient products do you use?

I use their ph kit and azamax. The azamax is great stuff for prevention and eradication of insects.

A job is right ! lol
Next grow will be clones of one or all 3 current strains, plus I'ma start some Cinderella 88 !!
I need a fast finisher that can hit like an Indica or Sativa, depending on when I harvest it.

I read this on another forum today.http://urbangardenmagazine.com/2010/11/qa-water-culture/ Really good read, Here's something pertaining to recent questions:

"Q: Can you run through your recommendations for propagating plants destined for DWC?

A: Establishing cuttings with an aeroponic cloner using 1/8th strength nutrients is ideal, preferably under mixed spectrum T-5 lighting. Propagating bare root plants suits DWC best. This offers an easier transition to water culture given there is no wicking substrate (rock wool, Sure To Grow) to hold excess moisture too close to the root crown.

Q: Is there an ideal water level to be maintained in the reservoir?

A: Start with the bare root submersed to the base of the rooted stalk, being sure to not submerse the stem or stalk tissue so as to avoid water logging. If using a wicking substrate, ensure the cube is approx. 1“ above water line; this may necessitate hand watering for a few days before the roots hit the water.

Q: What are the potentialities for plant steering using water level / amount of root zone exposed to the air?

A: With water as their growing media, growers can tailor nutrient solution parameters more specifically. Provoking plant responses such as essential oil production, fruiting and flowering are better manipulated when the substrate can be dialed in. For example, higher exposure of the root zone to atmospheric oxygen can help trigger a plant to increase oil production as a means to conserve water, and can also apply mild root stresses that are often interpreted by the plant as reproductive cues. While higher water levels can cause plants to focus more energy on vegetative production, particularly fan leaves, which in turn speeds transpiration and photosynthetic potential."

I love that last answer too !
I knew I wasn't seeing shit when I noticed a difference between my 1st and 2nd DWC, simply by keeping the water level up to and touching my net pots !! lol

Now the 1/8th strength nutes for clones ?
That's 1/8th strength based upon what nutrient line or PPM ? lol
That's why so many ppl like Clonex and don't even know it, because it's a MILD feeding solution and contains no hormones.

So I see the trick in DWC is :

High rez level that's touching the net pots during Veg = increase vegetative production = more bud sites = more yield

Low rez level, 2 - 3 inches below the net pots during Bloom = increased oil production = increased resin glands = increased potency, while aiding in seed reproduction as well.

I am going to do this in my current grow and see what happens !!!
