too much water?

hot zone in the soil?

There is no way it was from too much water...this was heat related.

I touched the area around the soil, and pot and it was very hot. I had the lamp about 5 inches from the top of the pots....

I thought the lamp was supposed to be that close no? or is the 600watt HPS too strong to be that close??

your seedlings are looking great, cotyledens are out, and first bladed leaves are forming. And like smokingbot said, a little bit stretched. This is due to the fact you are using such a low output light. 1100 lumens is a little low, you should be running with at least 2500/SQ foot, 5000 is average, and 7500 will give the fastest growth possible. now you are gonna use a 600 W HPS, that is one of the best lights to use. 600 W HPS put's out 55,000 lumens, enough for up to 10 plants. This light should be kept about 2 feet away from the plants (24 inches), using how the plants react as your guide. If they start looking burnt, raise the light, and if they streatch a little bit, it can be lowered. just make sure the plants never touch the lights.

you missed this in your thread. you were probably a few feet too close.

sorry dude.

Dude you fried your seedlings.
4-5cm for cfls.
For seedlings with a hps i would say 24-36" away depending on the kind of reflector and cooling and fans you have.:blsmoke:

Ok, the setup has been re worked. The 600 watt HPS light is now 3 feet above the pots. Germinating a new set of seeds as we speak.

once the seeds have successfully germinated and they have been moved in to pots, how often should they be watered? I assume the HPS light should be on 24 hours a day for a while?

1. don't use HPS for another 2-3 weeks
2. separate seedlings separate pots
3. don't put ur weed pix on some "free picture host site", upload them here, more secure
4. take that seed off the plants (gently) if it's stuck on there, it'll suffocate the seedling

5. YAAAAAAAY! 600w HPS sounds like a goodie :)

Thanks for the reply.

1. Don't use HPS for 2-3 weeks? What should the light source be once moved into the pots (in about 5 days)?

2.yes, each seed will be in its own pot

3. Done

4. Not sure I understand that one

I'm using a 2ft 4 Lamp T5 setup to veg the mothers, when my seeds arrive that is. You don't really need anything more than fluorescent lights for seedlings and vegatation. In fact you can flower with fluorescents as well, but I think you'll find most people use HPS.

:)

Not sure how to upload pics here. I click the icon and it asks for a URL...

Waiting on an answer to this question..

Fox farm ocean soil , tiger bloom and big grow were just ordered....ditching the miracle grow shit. Taking it up a notch.. Is that literally all that will be needed in the soil/nute/fertilizer department for the entire grow process?
