burn some leaf tips so u can get cfl's closer to rest of plant?

Good idea or bad idea? Because that is what I have been doing the past week or so.

I wouldn't recommend burning anything to get closer. The amount of extra lumens effectively pentrating the plant are not going to outweigh the damage you're causing. Just because it's a CFL doesn't mean you can dress up your plants like christmas trees. It's still heat, and plants don't respond well to heat. Keep them 2" or more away from your plants at all times.

If you don't have enough light then add more CFL's around your plant. If this isn't possible then just work with what you have available to you.
