Need advice! Weird things happening!

Hey all, this will be our third dwc grow. Have had very much success the last couple times but I think this time we are trying too hard lol First we had root rot or algae because of a clear tub (got rid of that quick!) and temp problems and we got that under control. Then just the other day we used some FF nutes and they may have been old and may have used too much, but they made our roots all nasty so we just started using canna nutes after a flush. Had a bit of a ph problem but since we started canna nutes its been very easy to control. Plants/roots are starting to look great, besides the top of 2 of the og kush plants. We have a dwc res with 13 gallons of water and 6 plants, water temp stays around 68-70, ph. has been crazy but we finally got it to stay around 6. 3 og kush and 3 ak47 clones. Just put them on 12 and 12. Anyway, I've included some pics, some taken under our 400w hps light and some under normal lighting. I've noticed the very top of the plants leaves were turning brown and the little cluster on top of the one plant looks totally dried out...don't know if this might have been caused from a ph lock out or maybe a deficiency??? I didn't know if it could be the light causing the problem because it's about a foot and a half away from the plants buts its affecting the two tallest plants, any advice would help! Forgot to mention we had a mite problem and used mighty wash a week ago (sprayed it on and then lights went off 2 minutes later) and the browning problem started a few days before we used mighty wash

Yea that's why I'm so confused! At first I thought it was the lighting but hubby said no way, too weak to do something like that, especially almost 2 feet above the plants

Looks more like Phosphorous (P) deficiency to me. Magnesium (Mg) def doesn't usually make the leaves curl up and brown but instead makes the outer edges of the leaves a light green and/or yellow. Phosphorous deficiency looks like this:

Not Mag deficiency.

You just have a ton of shit going on. Nutrient change, root damage, pH fluctuations, mites, pesticides... I don't know. This sounds like a very doomed grow from the get go. Then, to top it all off, you're running a 6.3pH in DWC when the proper recirculating pH is somewhere between 5.5 and 5.8.

My advice is to straighten out the pH, stick it closer to 5.8 consistently, and ride your nutrients out for a while longer. Also stop using the mite spray. If the problem discontinues then you know it was just a result of all the crap your poor plant has been through. The wrong thing to do is to start treating your plant for more crap.

Just take a step back. Slow down with all the remedies. Let your plant catch back up.
If you do the right things. Use good nutrients. Keep the environment good. Build new roots. This will grow a good plant. Stay the course.

That's full blown Nutrient toxicity. I'm talking runoff at over 2000ppm.
This interferes with magnesium uptake.

Real Magnesium deficiency, the natural kind not caused by the excess of Calcium or Potassium, looks like this (bottom leaf):

Snow crash-the ph was at 6, and then I stated I had 3 of each plant, not 6.3, btw nice journal and gorgeous plants! I can't wait to smoke, it's been 9 months, baby will be here next week! Anyway, I think we had a shitty ph tester too but we got a new, better one. Got the ph at 6 the other day finally after starting to use good nutes. Since I've gotten that under control it's been staying around 5.8-5.9 I figured it was because they have been shocked so much, after getting everything straightened out they are now looking beautiful, roots and all =) I have no clue what root aphids are but I'm just leaving the poor babies alone for a while, they have been through a lot! I never said mag def. I said Phosphorous deficiency. Whatever it is, this plant is in dire trouble and whenever one of my plants is in dire trouble I repot ASAP, even during flowering. You might lose a few days but plants love having new soil and from what it looks like, you fucked your soil up bad with old nutes, bad pH, and root problems.

I dont know why no one on this forum has mentioned it yet, but adding sand to soil is what professional growers sometimes use to prevent root problems, help pH issues, and generally keep your soil well aerated since sand helps water flow. You should add 50% sand to 50% soil and nutes. its much easier to change the pH of a sandy soil than it is with just pure compost.

you're giving your plant too many nutes. give it a break. do some research on the rubbing alcohol method to help clean them out. i'd do it before it spreads... same thing happend to me

They are doing fine now, thanks for the advice everyone, and growing in dwc not soil.
