sup guy i have a issue with heat in my grow tent. its 4 x 3 x 5 it has a 400w cooltube and a fan blowing a good amount of air outside the tent, only problem is my thermometer is reading high 80s low 90s. i also have an intake with the same fan as exhaust. there both 140mm computer fans and really move alot of air. i also have a fan between the top of the plants and the light. does anyone have a suggestion as to fix this heat issue? i live in an APARTMENT so cutting anything in the walls is a no no and my closet door stays open when lights on.

heres my setup

Hey i have a similar grow going with the same prob i think the pc fans work better to move air inside the tent or as a booster to you intake or exhaust

Ok, first thing is to get the ballast out of the grow area. Put it on the outside of the tent. Then also add a p.c. to the opening of your grow tube, if you have troubles mounting it, nothing some duct tape cant do. hope this helps, if you do this your temps will be right in a good range.

get a real ducting fan. those little pc case fans can't be pushing much CFM, maybe 60CFM or so tops. a 6" inline duct fan from lowes or home depot - should cost $28 and it'll do about 160CFM free flow.

wow thanks for the replies guys i just ordered a 6" 160 cfm from HTGsupply, anything i can do temporarily to get the heat down a little more? would putting my inline ducting on the other end of the cool tube do any changes? i removed the ballast and i thought that because it was a phantom digital that it would produce less heat but this thing is HOT! thanks for the tips. im already seeing progress in the temp. im excited to see how it improves with the inline fan. thats why i love this site. thanks guys + Rep to all.

for something temporary until your fan comes i guess you could stick some frozen water in there. in any kind of large plastic container you can find, milk jugs, etc. gonna be a bitch, but it seems like you've tried most other options...

You would be surprised at some if these pc fans, I got one that's over 90cfm. For a small enclosure they work really well.

I could use a 90cmf for my actual computer.
Where did you get yours at? It is a PC fan, or an axial fan?
Axial fans do look like PC fans.

I don't think those PC fans would move too much air, I use a few of them just to keep air circulating
inside a 2 X 2 area. I use the same 6" from HTG you said you ordered. That will definitely move more air.

I would look into one of these for a light like you have if the fan you bought won't work:

That's my opinion.
is there any reason the one i bought shouldnt work? are you running a 400w as well?

UPDATE

Ice in a bowl works like a charm, sitting at 77 constant.

im using some 140mm fans but they top out at 63 cfm although i have 1 on each end of cool tube now and it feels like its going quicker but only temporary until i get that fan.

Yea, it moves pretty good for a pc fan. I got 1 on my hood and the other on exhast from the hood. Works out really good, hope it does for you also. I saw them anyway from $12-20 on there.

It works for me, I use it as regular ventilation, not to cool a light. I originally used PC fans to evacuate the old air out,
and to bring new air in, then I bought the inline duct fan, and it works much better than the PC fans I had used.

I have an LED in one cab, and CFLs in the other, plan on getting bigger and better lights in the next few weeks.

77 seems to be pretty ideal, that is what my cabs are when the lights are on. Plants seem happy.

ok so i decided to test some things out so i added the extra ducting and fan to the other side, then i slapped on this desk fan beast, (6inch diy converter to 17" fan) now temps are looking better but there still at 85. which isnt bad but id like something in the 75 - 80 range. set the A/C in the house to 70.
