Before so dick, noob comes on here and tries to tell me how it's done, please know that I got this from Sannie's website Sannie's Seeds.

Sannie, if you don't know, is a better breeder than you and me, and has probably grown more weed than most of us. According to him, when you start from seed, when you place it in soil you plant it pointed side up, counter-intuitive to how all of us pretty much plant them (root down).

The theory is that when the tap root pops out of the seed shell, it immediately searches for sunlight. Meaning that if you plant it tap-root down, then the seed wastes vital energy making 180 degree turn towards the sun/bulb and then another 180 turn back into the soil.



Idk how much energy could possibly be wasted but it makes a little sense. In any case I have a bunch of shwag seeds, so I'm gonna do a side by side test, planting directly in soil, after soaking for 24 hours in water, one side pointy side down, one side pointy side up, and see which one breaks soil first.

Anyways, a little more knowledge for that ass.

Actually, I read maybe here, maybe another forum, to plant the seed sideways for that same reason! I do it that way.

it makes a bit of sense, but this is the first ive heard of it. well i got a few extra seeds and some veg space. how do you think we should go about testing this? my thought is to cut a pot in half an tape it to a piece of plexiglass. cover the plexiglass with a little duct tape to seal out light. and plant a seed next to it. orient the seed in a few different directions. peal back the tape after a few days and see whats happening. it might not work very well, but its cheap and easy to set up.

if someone has time and money they could make up a bit of nutrient rich agar and sow the seeds in that. then it would be very easy to see the seed's growth through the clearish gel.

Not all of us. But Sannie is correct. Botany 101 and holds true for close to 99% of seeds in nature. Do you want them to pop up fast or pop up healthy and vigorous? And try just planting your beans in the medium without a overnight soak. The cause for most poor germ rates is 'too much' moisture rather than 'too little'

I often find it dont matter what people say,every one has there own ways and the most common advise I will try.

I wouldnt do up side down as the tap root it exposed to the heat,ight and could dry up,Ive tried sideways and the root shoots out the side of the rockwool and then when bigger it seems more easier for the pant to fall over and un expectedy and die.

My method is paper towel and when tap root is 4-8mm or bigger,plant taproot down 1st. See now my method is very similar to whats suppose to happen if you planted a seed with 1mm tap root up except me leaving mine to 4mm+ means the taproot un folds and goes the way thats explained to you.

I have done up side but they take a bit longer to find a good grip and it takes effort to flick the shell back up. I would recommend not to do upside down if you dont know what your doing,

I would always recommend you let the tap root grow a bit and then plant it down,I guarantee you have a seedling with leaf with in a day or so,un like pointy bit up.

Another case of each to there own but any newb watching this should not do tap root up and I woud even say dont bother with side ways,my method means the tap root has unfolded or you wait for it to unfold and then plant down. I guarantee my method knocks time off your growth and is virtually fool proof.

IMO your planting to early with the methods you both say,I would go with mine to stay on the safe side. And Trust me,I went threw like £100+ quids worth of seeds losing loads to these methods to one thing or another. Good luck,oh im not disputing any thing here by the way,the methods mentioned work but in my opinion are to risky,I want 100% succes as seeds aint cheap.

Oh and if I was a success for breeder who was money hungry I woud recommend a method that some may die so you come back and buy more.

I guess you believe every seedbanks description that you get 700g off every plant in 2sm??
When fact is some plant wont even produce 30g.

I would recommend not listening to this post. Your method seems to be the one full of risk. But if it works for you then cool.

Why don't you use the link to my journal in my sig. This is my second grow, by the way. Looks to me with a whopping 13 posts you are a newb. yourself. Don't be calling people who have actuall research and TRIED different methods stupid. If you disagree that my current grow looks just great, then come back and throw your stones. I say my results speak for themselves...

It's a little bitty itty seed. Trust me under the right conditions if you put it sideways, upside down, on its back, on its head, on its own two legs, it will sprout. The important thing is to not plant it too deep and to not plant it too shallow. And that has been my experience. We never, ever, gave a second thought to pointy side up or pointy side down. We'd throw those seeds in their designated spots, lovingly pat some dirt back over them, sprinkle them with water, say a prayer and walk away. And a few days later, there they are sprouting away--usually--we experienced one bad season when nothing came up, but I think that was due to the weather not to the placement of the seed....GOOD Luck, but don't over think something so simple and natural

Anybody trying this yet? i got 3 bag seeds waiting for me to build my windowed pots. im going to plant one seed point down, one point up and one sideways. i should plant more than 3 to give myself a better sample size, but i dont really have space for more. ill post a thread when i start. anyone have any suggestions?

What's your plroblem? You sound like a closed minded fool by typing this. Somebody already mentioned it, but why would you slam research and learning new things? I'm not saying it gospel to plant your seeds pointy side up... It's an interesting argument from someone with a lot of experience smart guy.
Besides who are you to judge who I listen too and how I grow? Your tent looks waaaaay overgrown and your buds look whispy at best. Sannie has been a breeder for decades....who do I listen too...hmmmm
But let me know how that not learning things goes for you.
